Default Rear Tires Bald Already?

Haven't seen this around, but I only have 16,500 miles on my 2005 Touring and the rear tires are not only much more worn than the front tires, but they really look almost bald.

anyone else have their tires run out quick? i literally havent done any burnouts and i saw the tread rating was 140

thanks

chris

There are several threads about the tread wear of the OEM tires. Some members replace tires at 10,000 miles, others at 30,000. When you need new tires - you need tires.

Man - you got 16k miles out of yours, I only go 10k on mine. And I didn't even do any track time on them.
Yet, once I knew they where done, I did do about 100 donuts with my car! Even with the VDC off, I had to turn my car off after doing this since the VDC wouldn't go back on.
My suggetion is - order different tires (BFGoodrich, Falken's, or Michelins), while you wait for the new ones, go out and drag race, do donuts, drift,...

Yes - go with 245 front and 255 rear. 255 is the limit of the stock wheels (8" width). I put the Falken's RT-615 with these sizes on my stock wheels, and man are they great summer tires. Just don't drive them in the rain! BFGoodrich KDW's and Michelins PS2's are a much better all around tires, yet they are about 2x as much as the Falken's!

mood dude, can you send me pics or post them up here? do they suck that bad in the rain?

cparisi@red-ray.com

I drive 35 miles each way to work and back, ultimately i want two sets of wheels, one with all seasons or snow tires on them, one with summer tires.

i think buying new wheels is a little premature right now, so im probably going to end up just buying two tires for the rear for now

keep the responses coming...especially if anyone else has put different sized tires on the stock wheels.

Im in the same boat. I have an 03 Touring 6 speed and i want a slightly wider tire on the back (stock rim). So if i go with 255/45/18, this isnt gonna mess up the VDC or anything is it?

i talked to a rep from tire rack and he said that on stock wheels, we could fit a 245/275 combo on with no issues

bs? even if you can, i think it might look stupid with the tire protruding so far out from the edge of the wheel

Only got 13.5k out of my rears, they looked worse than the fronts. I picked up a set of four BF Goodrich KDW-2's in stock sizes for under $700 shipped from TireRack, which was only about $200 more than just the replacement OEM rear tires. //Sg

Hey, I don't know if any good, but I stopped at Sam's Club yesterday and they quoted me $140 each for Dunlops. Their highest price tire was less than $300 each. They had Michelin, Goodyear, etc...

Let's just say that in rain, if you don't mind drive less than the speed limit in these conditions, get them. Grassroots motorsports mag tested these tires against other street summer tires (at varying prices) and these turned in the fastest times (by over 1 second on a 30 second track)!
