I run 235/40r18 and 255/40r18 on OEM Track wheels.

It's slightly under driven.

I don't understand your question. That's the size I run on the rear.

So how do these tires perform on the street and where is the best place (pricing) to get them? I don't drive my car in the wet, but in a pinch, how are they? Oh, and does your car have VDC? Any adverse reactions to those tire sizes?

Also, I was looking at the Falken site and it looks like they are coming out with more size options. Looks like they have the stock front 225/45-18 and are coming out with a 255/45-18, which would be a closer match to stock sizes and not underdrive the car.

I wonder what would be better for agressive street/occasional track handling ('03-'05 Rays Track rims):
F 225/45-18, R 255/45-18
OR
F 245/40-18, R 255/45-18
???

I haven’t checked the Azenis sizes in a while. When I first got my setup, not all sizes where available.

The size difference in the rear between 255/45 and 255/40 is almost the same, one bigger and one smaller. For performance, you don’t want a bigger wheel as this will give a taller final drive and less acceleration and braking.

245/40R18 (f) and 255/40R18 (r) would be great and reduce the understeer of the car.

As for the tire’s behavior. Until you get bellow 50% thread, they will be better in the wet than the OEM re040. After that, they get sensitive to aquaplaning.

In the dry, these a pretty much the best bang for the buck you can get. Not the longest lasting (still better than the re040) nor the quietest, they stick very very well. If you want a cheaters tire for the street, this is it.

No VDC issues.

Get them from www.vulcantires.com

I completely agree, I have the 615's all around on my 9.5" rim and they are the best bang for the buck for the street. These are great tires, well I should say in the dry because thats clearly its main purpose.

What sizes are you running?

The reason I brought up the 255/45 is that it's closer to the stock size that the 40 series. With the 45 series, it is 1" larger in overall circumference and overdriving by 1/3% (you're actually going 60.8 MPH when the speedo says 60), as opposed to the 40 series, which is 2" smaller in circumference and underdriving by 2.4% (going 58.5 when speedo reads 60) and will continue to underdrive more and more with wear, whereas the 45 series will only get closer to stock specs as it wears. I dunno, am I making too much of this?

Oh, and on the handling, what about suspension mods? I have the Nismo S-tune suspension, which greatly reduced understeer from stock in itself, so would I still want the beefier fronts? The type of driving I prefer is road course driving as opposed to tight auto-X courses, if that matters.

One more question: how would, say, a set of Falken 615s in stock sizes compare in grip and performance to a set of Toyo T1-Rs in upsize (245/40-18, 275/40-18)?

No idea.

But running 245/275 is a setup for getting killer under steer. Plus, make sure these sizes have the same load rating.

I prefer to be under driven. Less chance of getting a ticket, better acceleration, lowered CG, better feedback from less sidewall flex…

Hmm, yeah, you're prob right, not to mention heavier and the need for wider wheels (also heavier). Looks cool, but prob not the best for performance. I do want a good mix of looks and performance, though. Do your rears look smaller than stock or out of place in the wheel well? Got any pics?

You have an '03 Track model, right? That's what I have. I've just heard of problems arrising with VDC on different tire sizes if you don't keep them real close to stock dimensions, but if you're running good, then cool. I typically keep VDC on for day-to-day street driving.

Mine is an '05 Track.

For pictures, I can send a couple of them tonight if you give me an e-mail address.

I agree with everything that Kolia said - I ran the 245 f and 255 r on the street for about 6 months on my stock wheels. Great tire, I use them now for AutoX on dry conditions.

PM sent.

As for the 40 or 45 series, we're probably splitting hairs. The difference is pretty small. The 255/45 series has .5" taller sidewall than the 255/40, but only .2" more than stock 245/45.

Makes me wonder if the tire size/VDC probs were on the older models now, rather tha the newer? Have to look around more on that.

Do these tires have a good, stiff sidewall, comparable to other top performance street tires?

My sizes are 265/35/18F 275/35/18 R. The only suspension mods I have right now is Tanabe GF210 springs. I am planning on getting sways but cannot decide on which to get, so i'm getting exhaust next week because its a easier choice.

Wow, that's underdriven even more than Kolia's. 2.6% in front and 4.1% out back. Does your car have VDC (and what year is it)?

I just ordered 245/40/18 & 255/40/18 for my 2003 Track. According to my calcs, the front diameter is really close and the stagger goes from 0.7" to 0.3". I'm pretty sure it's not gonna mess with my VDC, based on my experience with my winter tires 225/50/17 & 225/55/17. Either way, I only really push it on the track, and the VDC is off anyways.

Cool. Please post updates as to your impressions and how it handles with VDC on around town with some fairly agressive driving. It'll be a little while before I need tires, anyway; just doing my homework early and preparing.
