HREWheelMaker: Question! :)
I'm getting closer to purchase time on a set of the SEMA-spec wheels for my Z (my house looks as if it will be ready to close in a few weeks; hopefully early March) and had a question or two (maybe three
).
My main question for you is this: I noticed on those wheels you guys ran a 30 aspect ratio tire with the Eibach suspension kit. What I was wondering is, will a 35 aspect ratio tire fit on the same wheels on a stock Z without the lowered suspension (stock suspension)?
Due to the sometimes horrible condition of the roads around here (I live in the country pretty much) I thought that maybe the extra bit of rubber between the ground and the rim might be a good thing.
Will it be a big enough difference to even matter (in tire sidewall height)? Or should I just stick with the 30's.
Also, would it possibly be better for me to do 18's instead and do 40 aspect ratio's w/ the suspension drop (I'm guessing it would fit) for better rim protection?
Hell, I don't even know if 295/35/R19 tires exist.
It's not really a money or appearence thing (although I do prefer the look of the 19's), I just want to make sure that I get the best wheels for my car and that my investment is avidly protected from the unforseen bumps in the road (although I know the roads really well; you memorize them when you ride a sportbike). This is also going to be my daily driver (when I'm not riding aformentioned bike).
Also, I was planning on purchasing the Pirelli Rosso's, any feedback on those?
Thanks a million for all your help with wheel questions on this forum. It is greatly appreciated.

The 35 series tires are actually a great choice in 19"- to be honest, the 275/30-19 + 295/30-19 sizes we used are a bit shorter than the OE tires. A 275/35-19 + 295/35-19 would definitely work (even lowered). HRE is very friendly with Pirelli, and I wanted to use the new Rosso tire- plus I like the look of the 30 series front & back. BTW, the Rosso is a great tire!
As soon as I get in the office tomorrow, I'll check the overall tire diameters of the 275/35-19 and 295/35-19, and report back on this thread. I'll also check & see if Pirelli makes a 295/35-19 and 275/35-19. I think Yokohama offer the 35 front/rear in the AVS Sport. Check back here tomorrow for answers!

Bob

The news is not good... I can only find the 275/35-19 in the Dunlop Sport Sp9000 & Bridgestone S-03 and the 295/35-19 in the Michelin Pilot Sport & Yokohama AVS Sport.
A few guys are doing 255/35-19 + 275/35-19 Toyo T1-S: that might be about all you can do in a 'tall' 19" set-up...
I'd wait for the new Pirelli Rosso 305/30-19, stuff it on a 19x11 rear (with rolled fenders)

Well I really don't want to modify the body at all.
I'm sure no one makes 40/19's anyway.
Not even sure those would fit if they did hehe.
In this respect 18/35's make more sense just to have a little more tire protection, but I like the look of the 19's more. Hrrm... tough decision.
Thanks for all your help.

I'd say there's a chance they'll physically bolt onto the car, but they are really tall.
225/45-18 = 25.97"
275/40-19 = 27.66" (1.69" taller than 18" OE)
245/45-18 = 26.68"
295/40-19 = 28.29" (1.61" taller than OE)
The TCS & ABS systems will be happy, but they are tall enough that the front tires might foul the upper ball joint nut (above the tire).
I can't imagine they would look good on the car (what we call "buffalo tires"), and the gearing will be affected significantly.
I wouldn't do it, personally.
