I coulda died... (tires)
Ok here's the background, I have an 03' Touring, in Edmonton Canada. Most of my mileage numbers will be in kilometers but I'll try and translate for my American friends.
Bought the car brand new, July 03. Read about the tire feathering issue in 2004 with about 5000 kms (3100 miles) on the factory tires. Took it into my dealership to have checked. No problems they said.
Had a slight mishap rounding a corner, needed a new lower controller arm on my driver's side wheel. Asked that they double check the alignment specs to ensure the feathering issue is addressed. No problem they said. New alignment specs used (apparently).
Got my letter from Nissan recalling the tires due to feathering, and extending my warranty to July 06. I take the letter into the dealership in November of 05 for my pre-winter storage checkup. The tires now have 18500 kms (10,800 miles) on them. All they tell me is "sure we'll order you new tires they take a long time because they are backordered, call us when you get your car out of storage.". Ok great, no fights there.
So I get the car out of storage last weekend, and call them. They say they will have the tires in next week. Cool. I take the car out on the road to visit my GF in Washington, she goes to school there. I'm stopped at a gas station and I notice that the inside of the front tires are down to the CORD, at 20,000 kms (12,500 miles)!!! WTF! Neither visit to the dealership showed wear that severe.
I obviously can't drive on them, and the local Nissan dealer says he can't touch the car because it's Canadian. He tells me to get new tires and Nissan will reimburse.
So I find a Les Schwab nearby and they put 2 new Toyo Proxes 4 on the front (ouch, $400) and I continue on my trip.
Now, what do I expect from my dealership? I now have unmatched tires, 2 Toyos and 2 Bridgestones, the alignment is obviously still a problem, and I have forked out big bucks for new rubber.
What should I be asking for? And by "Asking" I mean "demanding".
(if those tires had shredded, I'd be a pink stain on the interstate, lol)

Ask for the only thing you can resonably ask for: the price difference between Toyos and whatever replacements they would have given you for all four wheels. Then get matching Toyos for the rear. The dealership cannot be required to reimburse the Toyos' full price since that isn't what they wouldn't give you as warranty replacements.
