I want to replace my stock '06 tires, for two reasons. 1) Looking for better traction. 2) Rain. I almost hit a car today turning onto a road, and I wasn't taking the turn too fast. Car seriously just picked up. (Rain had just started, I know thats a dangerous time).
The wheels I've looked at so far are:
Falken Azenis RT-615's
Goodyear Eagle f1 GS-d3's
I am planning to stay 18", go with 255/40 front and 275/40 rear (I believe that is recommended for wide 18's? My wheels will be 9.5" front and 10.5" rear)
My other issue is that I'm trying not to spend too much money. I don't want to sacrifice a whole lot of performance, but if I can save 100-200 bucks and lose an unnoticable amount of traction, that doesn't matter. I am never going to track my car.
Would anyone recommend alternatives to the RT-615's and the GS-d3's? The GS-D3's (from what I know) are better than the RT-615's, but they are something around $1k for a set. I was hoping to be more around $800 max.

Are the Toyo Proxes T1R better than T1S? Also, what is a good online dealer who sells Toyos? Tirerack and DiscountTireDirect don't have them.
Finally, if the sizes I gave were strange sizes, can someone recommend a good size setup for me? I want to stay 18", I just want to be wider in the back (but do it without having to roll fenders or anything). So, tire size? Wheel size to go with the tires?
