Red face I did a stupid, stupid thing.

After hearing/reading stories of volk hubcaps being ripped off, i glued them on with elmers ultimate (amber) glue. now, my tire guy can't balance the tire cuz he can't remove the cap. tonight, i removed as much of the glue as i could and tried to gently hammer the cap off from within, without any luck. any ideas?

if u have or know a chick who has nail polish remover, use that. it disolves superglue. i don't if will damage the finish of the wheels though.

Damn...that sucks. You may need to take off each wheel so you can try to hammer it out from the back side so it pops out. Try to use some WD-40 as well to help lubricate it. Good luck bro...

daaamn....are you using a mallet to hammer it out?

Maybe a mallet and a chisel like tool to get it around the edges on the back side?
After wearing the glue down with some chemical of course.

Tire guy had a prob popping mine off too. It worked when he got a huge socket and placed it against the back of the cap and then hammered the socket.

Well at least you didn't use epoxy or liquid cement to begin with. Go to a local hobby/craft store and get some super glue solvent. To apply it, I'd suggest removing the wheels from the car and lay it face down then put the solvent in from the back side of the center caps. That way it would reduce any drip on the rims and minimize damage if any.

I believe acetone (paint thinner) is the only thing that works on super glue, although I'm sure it will eat your clear coat on your rims. try diluting some and using a fine haired paint brush to get it in there.

Acetone is also a main chemical in nail polish remover...which is why some have recommended it. I know for a fact gasoline also breaks down sticky substances such as glue and sticker residue VERY WELL....I'm pretty sure it wouldn't damage your tires/wheels either.... so it's up to you

Not quite the same problem, but I have to use a similar method to keep my Rays center caps from actually falling off.

My front center caps kept falling off my wheels due to the plastic tabs on the back warping from the heat of the brake rotors. First I used some epoxy to put them on, but after about six months they just fell off agian. The epoxy could be removed with a fingernail so I cleaned it off the inner edge of the hub, and decided to use a bead of clear silicone around the inner edge of the cap. This time it has held steady for about three months with no issues.

I've already lost 4 center caps off my front wheels. Hopefully this time they will stay, but I keep telling myself to buy 4-6 extras just in case my wheels go out of production. You'd think Rays would at least put some metal rings or something to hold them on...
