Default What is offset, exactly?

Forgive the rather simple question, but I've never been big on knowledge when it comes to rims. Besdies, I'd imagine there are others out there with the same question that are too shy to ask. Me? I don't get embarrassed.

Could someone please explain, in simple terms, what the offset of a wheel is and how to measure it if you don't know what exactly you have. I'd sure appreciate it.

I am about to buy some rims and I was told that a 25mm offset on a certain rim fits better than a 35mm.. They said the 25mm comes out all the way to the fender I guess.. He said something about a +offset... Now I am confused because it seems like a 35mm should come out further than the 25mm right?? But he said the 35mm looks sucked in... Now I am confused even more..

Your Welcome. It all has to do with the Mounting Surface of the Wheel Inrelation to the Hub and Outside edge of the wheel.

A +25 offset is VERY common. Just read up on the link.

Thanks for the link. I searched the board for that info earlier and couldn't find it. Oh well.
