The other location we looked at for the band was over the tip of the triangle (ie - at the valve stem-to-TPS point. But with the gap underneath it seemed too easy for the valve stem to snap off the sensor, with over tightening of the band or a hard bump was hit while driving.

So I didn't like either of those options.

Once I send these pictures to HRE, I think they may take another look at the banding. They said they've done it a few times without any problems.

Yeah, right now it looks to me like the only real option if you just have to have the sensors, is to remove the stock valve stem and epoxy the sensor in the wheel.

I just figured I do without them for now. Maybe see what HRE comes up with. I sort don't want to epoxy them to the wheel because what if you ever want to remove them for whatever reason. The epoxy solution seems rather permanant. Maybe I'm wrong about that?

Regarding my TPS comments above, I don't mean to dissuade anyone from giving the banding a try and decide for themselves whether it's going to hold.

Ultimately, it was my decision based on what I saw and a gut feel that I didn't want to try it. Personally, I don't think not using them is going to bother me a bit.

why not flip the tps and point the valve stem toward the tire instead of the rim?

Looking at that material, check out the bottom of this page:

2003z,

Nice find, that make-a-clamp material looks almost exactly like the material from HRE. A number of other folks may be interested in that material.

We looked at flipping the sensor over too. But the valve stem seemed to stick kind of far out into the tire, so I nixed that one too. Plus I wasn't positive the sensor would work correctly with the holes in the top of the sensor facing the wheel.

Maybe if you removed the stock valve stem from the sensor then turned the sensor 90 degrees in the drop center. That might work.

Yeah, now that I think about it, if you faced the valvestem out that could be hazardous with a flat also. As for the clamps, I started looking really hard for my own when I saw that $160.00 price!

Default tps

Russ, you said you sent pics to HRE. When you get an answer please post here. I would like to use the tps system and I am a little dissappointed that the stuff they included didn't work. Let me know what you find out.

HREwheelmaker are you out there?

Default the TPS

HRE is reviewing the TPS issue. The cars they did initially has had no problems. The TPS will never fit flush.

They are though looking at this again for further recommendations.

Yikes! I'm sorta sorry I posted anything already. Don't get frazzled just yet, give HRE a chance. I just sent the pics today so they probably won't even see them until Monday. And I'm not even sure if they still have a 350Z to mess around with. Maybe they'll figure something out or maybe they'll say I'm a moron. I really don't know.

Default TPS

Would it have been possible to place the clamp over the valve stem, securing it to the higher portion of the wheel with the sensor riding in the groove?

Default tps

Russ did you use the double stick tape? I didn't see that in the pics. maybe that stuff fills the space and it will fit flush. Just an idea.

Avalon Racing please post the fix from HRE here ok?

thanks, zh guitar

the WHOLE kit above is $229, obviously we don't NEED all the monitors and displays, but we could get some good ideas based on that pic.

Default TPS response from HRE

Here's the response I received from HRE.

Dear Russ:

Were they trying to put the band on the sensor body, or the valve stem part? That is the exact sensor that we did or tests on. If you put the double sided tape on each side of the valve stem with the band over top, it will work perfectly. The tape holds it in place and the sensor body will “float” off of the rim. It actually is very stable and works great. Feel free to call me for a more detailed description.

Sincerely,

(name removed, PM me if you want a contact)
