Default how big on stock 18s?

how big of a tire can i get? i know, i know. search. but everytime i serach it goes to a "page cannot be dislplayed" link

basically i need two new rear tires and am thinking about going larger but keeping the stock 18" wheels that come on an 04 performance.

on the other hand, ive also found some 245 40r18 for pretty cheap and was wondering if i would notice a difference in the slightly smaller ones?
and how do you determine if a different tire tread is compatible or not? i have the continental contisport contacts or something like that right now. should i just get the same on the rear or is there a better tire i should buy that i could get now and then in the future get the fronts replaced?

You really can't change to a wider tire on the stock wheels. You need to keep the rolling diameter the same and the next size up from the 245/45/18 that will retain the same rolling diameter is 275/40/18 which will not fit on an 8" wide wheel.

i asked the same question and have made up my mind on getting falken 452 tires with 245/40/18 front and 275/40/18 rears.

isn't that a little too wide for front and back? If not i'd be interested in the same set up

I thought you couldn't fit 275's on the stock 18s?? Well i have the touring 18x8 rims. I have 245/40/18 up front and 255/45/18 rear. It's a little fat in the back, but seems to ride fine...

255 are the biggest you can go, 275 will fit but will not fit properly. The whole tire won’t even make contact to the road because it doesent fit right, that will have a negative effect on handling, and IMO is dangerous to have. I did research on this because I was in the same boat as you about 2 months ago. I would just go 255 or cough up some money for wider rims. I did not research front tire sizes greatly because I was not in need, but I believe 245 up front will be ok.
