Default Changing tire size keeping stock wheel question

I currently am running a 225/45/18 up front and a 245/45/18 in the rear of my 06 touring z with the VDC. I am looking to upgrade from the sorry stock tires to some bfg kdw's. My question is, Would i be safe in running a 245/40/18 on the front 8 inch wide rims and a 255/45/18 on the back 8.5 inch rims? Also i did a tire calculation and discovered there is a diameter difference of.75 from the factory from my front and rear tires. The tires i am looking at have a difference of 1.32 inches from front to rear. All diameters are kept in the +/- 3% spec that nissan recommends. Do you think i will have any problems with the VDC?

And before anybody says use the search function i already have and could come up with nothing about my specific issue.

Yeah, you should be able to do it. IIRC, I've heard of people running 275s on the stock rear wheels.

Yep, you'll be fine. You'll reduce the understeer a bit, make the car a bit more neutral handling. This will be a good mod. I would stay away from the 275s recommended above on a 8.5" wheel. Some have done it, but it's not recommended by any tire manufacturer. 255's are perfect for an 8.5" wheel

What about staying with the stock 225's up front and going to a 255 in the back

I've got 225 front and 255 rear on track wheels (8.5" rear width). I am satisfied, sufficient grip for my power level.

I am running my 245's in the front and 285's on the rear, on my stock rims... There is no problem with rubbing or fitment...Not many people try it because they think it will never work, but it is perfectly fine...Just Reset your ECU after you swap the tires. You can even put 285's all the way around, i have friends that run that setup and there is no rubbing.

Question

FrickU - How do you reset your ECU? I assume you are doing this for VDC issues?

does 275's (which are 10.83" wide) not look funny on a wheel that is 8.5" wide? that is over 1" of overhang on each side of the wheel! i would love to go with 275's as they are better gripping and also there are more available of them than 265's and 255's

same for the front and the 245's. (9.65" wide) on 8 inch rim, which is almost an inch overlap on each side of the wheel. does it not look funny? i mean sorry to be so technical about it but i wanna know what it looks like before i invest (as im sure others may)

can anyone take pics and post them?

Thanks in advance

Well I'm running 225s on the front because they still have a bunch of tread on them, so it looks pretty funny anyway. So here is my car with 225/275 (f/r). I also have 15mm spacers up front.

I have 17x7.5 rims in front and 17x8 in the back, with 275/40/17 all around.

I'm in the same situation...I have a track with the track rays and I'm looking to replace my rears. I just got the front replaced (with stock potenzas unfortunately) for free thanks to Nissan so, I would like to keep those. For the rear, I want to go with 275/40/18. Will that work with the 225/45/18 up front?

Or should I go with stock size g-Force T/A KDW NT's for now and when they run out, do the 275/40/18 rear, 225/40/18 front. I'd replace all four now, but I want to get some miles out of the free tires.

They work great...

I'm plannin on gettin 245's up front for my next set. I'd get all that you can out of those stock tires up front and just get new rears in 275. Then when the time comes for new front ones upgrade to a wider and stickier tire or just get the better tire in the same size.

Exclamation

BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW 275/40ZR-18 99Y B (38081)

Are these the tires that you were referring to?
Are these good tires? How do they compare to the toyo's and to yokohama's?

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...d=18&ar=40&ct=

{edit} I found the tire you were referring to and i see the difference in tread. is the NT better than the regular KDW?

BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW NT 245/40R-18 93Y B (38253)

Also, i can not find the NT on the Discount tire website in 275-40-18

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/sea...75&ar=40&rd=18

on the 2nd link, which tires are the best?

The KD's are better for dry cornering... The KDW's are better for wet traction. I still get great wet traction with the KD's regardless.

Pic of the KD...

I think a 255/45 would just be too tall...you'd lose sidewall stiffness and experience a slight drop in acceleration from the increase in overall diameter. Just stick with the 245/45 or maybe try a 265/40. It's not recommended for an 8.5 rim and only slightly out of spec, but as you can see many are using 275s without incident. Also the % stagger lies between 1.52% with the 17's and 2.73% with the 18's.
225/45-18 o.d.659.7mm
265/40-18 o.d.669.2mm
9.5mm= +1.44%
I'm in a similiar predicament but luckily can replace all 4...these track rims don't allow for one easy solution for upgrading in tire width. Here's what I've come up with (in mm):

225/50-17 o.d.656.8mm
235/50-17 o.d.666.8mm
10mm= +1.52% (STOCK)

225/45-18 o.d.659.7
245/45-18 o.d.677.7
18mm= +2.73% (STOCK)
_______________________________________________

235/45-18 o.d.668.7mm
245/45-18 o.d.677.7mm
9mm= +1.35%
notes: decreases understeer, slower turn-in from taller f sidewall, stagger slightly out of spec

245/40-18 o.d.653.2mm
255/40-18 o.d.661.2mm
8= +1.22%
notes: decreases understeer, greater lat. g's, larger wheel/fender gaps, stagger out of spec, better gearing

235/40-18 o.d.645.2mm
255/40-18 o.d.661.2mm
16mm= +2.48%
notes: maintains proper stagger, largest wheel/fender gaps, sharpest turn-in/response, better gearing, rougest ride

245/40-18 o.d.653.2mm
265/40-18 o.d.669.2mm
16mm= +2.45%
notes: maintains proper stagger, consistent wheel/fender gaps, slightly better gearing and sharper turn-in, greater lat. g's, 265 is one size out of mfg. range for 8.5" wheel

245/40-18 o.d.653.2mm
275/40-18 o.d.677.2mm
24mm= +3.67%
notes: fills rear wheel well best, 275 is two sizes out of mfg. range for 8.5 wheel
I still haven't decided myself but am leaning towards the 245f/265r. I could see the 235f/255r working well but visually might not look right without lowering the car. I really think Nissan chose some funky tires sizes for this car!
