Default Best Drag Radial for our stock 17" rims?

I see a couple options...

Nitto 555r 245/45/R17
or
Mickey Thompson Street Radial 275/40/R17

Seems the MT might be a little wide. What do you guys think? The Nitto's should fit good. Any other options out there?

These tires will only be ran on track days, but they need to be driven 40 miles to the track. So I am staying away from cheater slicks.

MT street radials are by far the better tire. I've been told they will fit on the stock 17s, even though they're not quite the ideal width. I'm still considering if I will go this route or drop some slicks on some 300zxtt wheels this fall.

I have 555R's on my Lightning as my street tires and they are decent, but I know the MT's are superior. Unfortunately they don't make a MT in my truck's stock wheel size.

I'd love to get that MT to fit on the stock 350z 17" rims.

Ive seen a guy run a 275 on a stock 17", while it did bulge some it wasnt as bas as I thought it would be. You should be fine, people run 11.5" wide slicks on 8" wide rims and never have issues...

I think I would feel better on a 17x9 rim. I was looking at some rims on Discount Tire Direct. The specs are: MSTG SL 17X9 5-114.3 36S

Is that acceptable backspacing? Would it work? Thanks.

Plugged the offset difference in the calculator and it came back with:
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 16mm LESS
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 10mm

Now, I don't have a good feeling for if that would work or not. Opinions?
