Default Got my Axis wheels on FINALLY!!

Yes, after almost 2 months of waiting for rims, and then tires...... the tires finally arrived. WOW, do I have one hell of a fiasco for you.

I drove the rims up to my buddies shop where they mount 20-24s frequently. They know what they are doing so this should have been a walk in the park. NOPE!

First rim goes up on the machine. He spins it....... the damn lip is bent. He spun it on the machine and showed me how the tire feeder moved in and out from the lip. Hence, it was bent.

NExt weel........same thing.

Next wheel......same thing.

Last wheel.......again! (PS-dont recommend these wheels)

So, 1.5hrs go by as he TRYS AND TRYS to get the SO-3s to go on. Every time it hit a wobble the machine got DANGEROUSLY close to scratching the rim. Finally , he said "nope, not going on".

I knew that i would have one heck of a time returning these to spyengineering so I said they HAVE to go on.

So, we tried to reverse mount them. IT took 4 guys, with 6 crow bars, half a roll of duct tape and the machine to get them on. Then 80-100psi of pressure to get them to seat. 3+hrs roll by and FINALLY they are done. We had one issue though..........the first rim got a scratch on it, but I will buy some model car silver paint and dab the spot......no biggy.

They are ON, and Im going for a ride.

CYA!

Please- DONT ask, why I didnt return them. Trust me, I thought about it, but it would not work out. Im known as "Mr. Get Screwed" and it would just turn out a disaster~!

The rim is not bent so that it is OUT of round relative to the ground. The outtermost lip is warped. You can only see this warpage if your spinning them relative to something that isnt moving (hence the machines arm). Its about 1/4" outta round. No one will ever notice it unless they are superhuman. The bent issue only influenced the mounting of the tire.

Pics are coming as soon as it STOPS RAINING AK!

So you are going to have to go through that ordeal twice each time you get new tires?

Interestingly enough it was sunny ALL day untill the SECOND i put the wheels on. Black clouds rolled in and it started to pour. Gotta love it. So goes my life

No, next time I get tires we know the "trick" to mounting them. I prolly wont run the S0-3s either. Also, keep in mind I have 2,000 miles on my Z since AUGUST! This car doenst get many miles on it.

do you feel like the wheels are out of round b/c of

1. Axis wheels fault
2. Spyengeneerings fault
3.Shipping
4.Mounting process

this is very interesting, I won't ask WHY you didn't return them, BUT why are they NOT round??

Well, this is damn shame. We watched as you went round and round trying to cheap-out, not spend a lot of money and go with a rim that you weren't particularly happy with width-wise, and you still took it in the ***!

Hindsight is always 20/20, but you really should have STOPPED when the tech showed you the bent lip and immediately got on the phone with Spy Engineering.

The ONLY good thing that comes out of this is that because of your misfortune, the rest of us know that you can't get something for nothing.

Sorry.

I dont think $1430.00 for just rims is something for NOTHING. Thats alot more then most people use on rims alone. Maybe the Z guys dont find an issue spending top dollar on wheels, but I dont make JACK financially so this was a good option.

Let me reitterate ONCE again, the rim is 100% in round. The lip is slightly out. Not enough to be HUGE problem, just enough to bother the installer. NO ONE ON THE PLANET could look at the wheels and tell. Its AXIS fault, not shipping, or spyengineering. If I got on the phone with spyengineering he would have just said tuff ****. I (for once) went around the problem and ended up with great results. They are on and look fantastic. NO COMPLAINTS now!!!

Gotta post a pic. Sounds like we share the same luck...always a debacle.

So you're telling us that these came from the manufacturer with the lip defective (slightly imperfect)? "F" that...if the tires weren't mounted, these bad boys were definately going back to the vendor for replacement. I understand the crap that they would have put you through.....and with your luck they would OK the replacement and ship you wheels that were worse than the first set. LOL

P.S. Make sure you keep an eye on those potholes and stay away from the curbs.

I agree, 9" would be good. Honestly they look great, no complaints here. The 255s are perfect
