Default question about tire sizes for 19" wheels

ok guys, here is my dilemma which i need clarification:

i have 19' volk te-37s

front 19x8.5

rear 19x9.5

ok i have bridgestone potenza s03

front 245/35 19"

rear 275/35/19"

i am going to get another set of tires, but i was looking at japanese and european car sites and the rears were 275/30 19" for my 19x9.5 rear set-up.

i know people use the 275/35 19" tires. and tire rack recommended this size for me.

but why do other countries downsize the profile for the rear tires, such as 35 series rears to 30 series rears, in my case.

let me know tire gurus out there.

I dont think it has to do with ohter countries, its just a preference for looks...my friends NSX is running 275/30/19's on hte rear simply because he likes hte way it looks better.

I also think it is for looks. The 30's have a side wall that is 82.5mm and the 35's have a sidewall that is 96.25 if my math is correct. The 35's will keep you closer to stock diameter (which I think is best). I think the extra 1/2" of rubber should improve ride quality. Turn-in and steering response should be a little quicker with the 30's.
