for a start
find the styles you like
narrow down to 2-3 rims
then search those wheels specifically you'll find tons of info
looking for rims is freaking the most fun thing to do

Anyway, congrats on actually SAVING up money to get something you'll enjoy (credit card debit is a *****). Although I stock wheels, it seems the popular choices of wheel brands are volk and work (which seem to be in the price range you have). From reading what others have to say, they seem like very high quality wheels. Take a look at Tire Rack or a smiliar site to get an idea of styles you would like, and keep us updated.
