Better to have it protecting against the elements. I would hate to polish the lips with metal polish all the time.

DO NOT USE METAL POLISH. You will F**K it up and break down the clear coating.
Use a high quality car wax that is not abrasive. You should be able to buff out the lines.

yeah that's what I meant.
Better to have a clear coat and have to wax it than to have bare metal and have to polish.
