Default Replacing the lip/barrel of multi-piece wheels

Is it possible to just order the lip/barrel from a wheel manufacturer (ie.. Work/Volk) to fix irrepairable damage on a multi-piece wheel or just to go with a wider wheel? I've heard reference of this before but never really heard of anybody doing so.

Just contact a distributor of the rim and ask if they can find out if you could order replacement lips.

I also tried, and I got turned down. You will have to buy a whole new rim, unless you find someone who has a loose wheel. You think it would be as easy as sending you the barrel since it is a multi piece, but for some odd reason they can't seperate. Good luck on your search though.

My guess is it's a liability/safety concern for volk to sell you the barrel.

If you're asking for a barrel chances are your wheel is damaged.

This raises 2 issues.

1. Structural integrity of center pieces of wheel could be compromised
2. Incorrect reinstallation of barrel could lead to other problems...wheel failure etc

I dont think so. i had my centers taken out and fixed the bends and curb rashes of the barrel and screw them back on.
i think its just more of a profit thing for Volks.

The thing is YOU took the initiative to do this. Did you have authorization from volk to get the barrel fixed? I doubt it.

I'm not saying that there's going to be anything wrong with your wheels from now on. BUT... if there were to be a wheel failure (Just a "what if") then you would have no legal claim against volk / rays / mackin because you disassembled the wheel. Clearly they do not support disassembly.

That's all I'm saying.

Trust me it's more about volk limiting their liability than anything else.

I don't get what the point of having a multi-piece wheel is if the mfg is not willing to sell the parts individually. I highly doubt that people would be willing to have their wheel(s) sent back to Japan to be down for months to have the mfg fix them (assuming that Volk, Work, etc. are even willing to fix them).

I would think a wheel barrel being bent by a pothole is the most "failure" there is. I don't remember seeing Volk post a note "please don't drive over rough roads due to may bend material".
I've heard of big name wheel companies take the rim back and assemble it for you. I honestly feel they make more profit by not doing this and rather sell you the entire wheel as a set while offering no support. heck,as long as ppl keep buying and willing to wait months, y bother.
