Default Dealership calls about cracked alloy wheels.

I got a call from the dealership telling me that they'd like me to bring the Z in for inspection of the 35th Anniversary wheels for cracks.

The guy said it wasn't a recall but just something they wanted to check. I'm thinking WTF? My car is almost two years old and I've only had it to the dealership once for the six month inspection and oil change. The car now has 2600 miles on it so I really doubt the wheels are cracked. I wasn't going to bring the thing in until the guy said he'd give me a coupon good for a free oil change.

OK sign me up.

In my heart I'm thinking this is some sort of service center ploy to get me in for to give the car a once over to see if I've been getting the car serviced at Jiffy Lube and need to be shown the error of my ways and to bring me back into the fold $$$

So has anyone else received such a phone call concerning cracks in their 35th Anniversary wheels? I figure the 2006 wheels would be the same unless they are only doing a limited "secret" recall.

scam man! scam! Once you take the car in, they will tell you you need 1500 miles service or some other BS. I took my car in for something little when it had about 20,000 miles. The service people told me I HAD to do 15,000 miles service. So I asked what's in the service.. it was like adding antifreezer, flushing out transmission fluid and such. They wanted to charge me $300 for that. HELL NO! Dealerships find all kind of ways to scam your wallet.

I found another posting here in the general section from someone who got the same call for his track model wheels. The inspection took less than an hour and I got a free oil change for the effort. No cracks found ... 2600 miles.

Thats certainly a pleasant surprise. Dealers seldom give anything away without a hitch.

The dealer has followed up with a letter via certified mail - including a color picture. Ted is the service manager, Tom is the Ford and Nissan dealership owers.
