no but really, what's the ideal width for a 18x9.5in rim? I was looking at something in the 265-275 range maybe 35 or 40 sidewall.
160 psi

but for a 9.5 width rim, you'd probably want something like what you said, 265-275 with a 35-40 sidewall..

i'd go for 275-40-18 (rear)and 245-40-18(front).

I've been thinking the same thing... except 275/35 in the rear 245-40 front. Gives the same circumference. I don't have VDC but I've heard the ABS goes a little bonkers with oddly sized tires.

I hope you can afford money for new rims every few months . Not going to last very long at all . The stretched look is FUGLY as hell and I have no idea why you guys like it . It looks like your trying to be in a low rider club or something......yuk !!!!

obviously, this setup is not my track setup... just what i drive daily on. and its strictly for looks. then again, you have to understand it to appreciate it. just look on hellaflush.com and you'll see what i mean.. its not for everyone.

Streched FTW as long as it is done in moderation.

There is nothing unsafe when it comes to streched tires as long as it is done in moderation. I HATE to bring up the drift example but in the D1GP count how many of the cars are running a slightly streched tire. Have you ever seen them encounter bead lock failure?

Now when you start getting into the 195 on a 10" wheel, then we might need to reopen this discussion [quote] by UrbanTacticZ

You may see drifters run a slightly stretched tire . But they dont tell you they run alot higher psi in them . 1- to make them safer 2- to get them to spin and smoke

The reason why I deleted that comment was because I was thinking about events in the past. Today streched tires in drifting is still done, however, it is done often with amatures. The reason is to have a stiffer sidewall and this can be done either by streching or by getting a good tire with a stiff sidewall. Streching also reduces the contact patch which is good for drifters so they can slide around. But still, at the end of the day, I have yet to see any failure when it comes to the bead lock.

Kind of getting our quotes mixed up ? I said the above .

Anyway stretching tires on wide rims looks bad and is a waste of money because you will always end up against a curb and ruining the rim . And the ride quality has to be bad because of the higher preasures needed to run them that way .

Ride quality on a 35 series tire is bad regardless

werd.

I ran a 235 on a 10 for a few months with a 60 mile commute without any problems, just a sore back.
