I got my duplicolor wheel paint from pep boys. I personally am not happy with the finish. I cleaned, de-greased, sanded, and primed the wheels before painting. Each wheel got around 5-7 coats of color and about 5 coats of clear. Still, it feels like you can fart on the wheels and the paint will chip.
The paint ended up MUCH softer than I ever would have expected, even letting it cure to the exact times recommended. I think I'll get them powder coated now for a more uniform, longer lasting finish.

Within a few days. I got crazy orange peel from the inconsistency of the spray, so I first tried wetsanding with some 1500 grit. With one light pass, it pretty much took the finish down to the primer I know I must have done something wrong in my methodology, but I thought I prepped it correctly.
Oh and a week after painting, I had to get new rear tires put on. The techs at the tire place I went to use a leather strap so their pry bar wouldn't make contact with the wheel itself...the pressure from the leather was enough to pull some paint off.

i painted flat black with clear over it, so it turned into a nice semi-gloss/satiny finish. I think I would get them powdered the same way...not too flat, not too glossy.
The problem with completely black wheels though is they accentuate exactly how doo-doo brown your tires are.

Put car on jackstands. Most of the time was spent cleaning the rims. Used 400 wet sand paper to remove factory clearcoat. Was able to smooth out minor curb rash on one rim with coarse sandpaper (started with 80 and went finer). Quick mask off of the tires. Spray painted front and back of rims with a few coats. Spray painted on clearcoat to finish. Used a red touchup brush to highlight the raised lettering (Rays Eng. and Forged) and valve caps.
Used Duplicolor rim paint - graphite and clearcoat.
The only problem was lack of consistent spray from cans (some spattering/little uneven coloring in a few spots). Would be nice to try again over the winter with proper spray gun/compressor.
Waiting for Rays Eng. (Volk Racing) emblems (black lettering with white outline). If emblem quality is good...may put one or both on...
Overall, fairly happy with result and fun to see how easy it was to do this myself and really change the appearance of the car.
