Lugs/Locks throw off wheel balance?
im looking for some locks for my nismo rims and keep running into locks that say "will not effect wheel balance" , do locks really throw off the balance?
also i have the original lugs that came with the nismo wheels, what are they made of? are they the same as rays duraluminum lugs?

I don't think it would throw off the balance. Also the Nismo ones seems to be just normal lug nuts. I saw them on a fellow Z's just a couple weeks ago. I was going to get some Rays or cool looking lug nuts but then I realize how many thieves has RAYS keys by now so I just went with Gorilla locking lug nuts and their locking key set - so it requires 2 different keys to steal my rims.
In today's world I think performance is less important than security. Yeah sure I used to have nice forged lug nuts but now I'd rather see my rims on my car when I get back.

They will depending on the style. Nissan uses a really light lug nut and it is a lot lighter then the standard lug. I noticed the balance issue on a Nissan I owned in 95. I went with a set of splinedrive and liked them a lot.
I could feel progressively more vibration the faster I went. Lug nuts are not on the center of the wheel. They are 1/5th the way out. So the slight inbalance is not as apparant but it is there. The lighter your wheel tire combo the more you will feel it. On a heavy 17-18 like the 350Z comes with stock you may never feel it at normal (sub 80mph) speeds. I felt it easily on my light 15's at 60mph. It would have been unsafe at 130mph like I drove it at VIR. I never use locking nuts at the track anyway. They sell balanced lug nut pairs. Just get those and you will have no issues at all.
