Default The $326 Nail

So I'm leaving work with the window down and I hear this ticking sound that changes speed with the speed of the car. So I pull over and look at my tire and see this:

More Pics Here

Ughh. So I limped it home and called around and of course no one has this tire in stock. The tire is:

Falken FK452 275/35ZR19 96Y

Which it looks like I can get at tire Rack for $296. If anybody knows any place in seattle that might have it in stock let me know.

The worst part is there is a NW Nissan meet at golden gardens park right this minute. At least around 30 Z's were planning on showing up from all around the area.

Is there anything I can do in the mean time before I order a new tire? I asked a shop of they could patch it, but since it is right on the edge of the tire they aren't allowed to patch it.

I have some of that canned tire gunk stuff. But that just seems like a bad idea.

That looks like a big hole to patch, but my mom ran over some crazy like 10" long piece of mangled scrap metal and it went through the the tire in 2 places. She drives an Envoy XUV and we patched it up with the sticky tire patch snakes you punch in with the little hook tool you can buy at like autozone, and it was just fine.

I had to patch my ex's tires like 6 times cause his dumbass would drive through construction sites at night drunk and would always call me and make me come patch him up haha, but none of the patches ever went out or anything. Just new holes, probably didn't help that his sidewalls were like 2 mm thick and tires were severely over due for replacing. Point being, I think you can get away with a patch for now if it will fit in the hole but get a new tire when you can.

Oh and of course use the soapy water trick once the patch is in to see if any air is escaping the hole.. the water will bubble up. Make sure to let the pressurized air out before patching too.

You could get it plugged as a temporary fix. Do NOT use that canned gunk stuff. That will trash the wheel, TPMS, etc.

That's a little too close to the edge for a plug. I would not trust a plug at 60 MPH plus.

Oh yeah, +1 that stuff FTL.

Do you have a beater or 2nd car? If not it looks like a plug and driving slowly is your only option. I can't believe you can't get that tire in stock, that really sucks. Good luck a sidewall blowout is no good.

i'd pay a tire shop 20 bucks to patch it from the inside rather than a new tire for the time being.

Is that the front of your car? If it is, you run 275/35/19 in front? And wow didn't know falken's were so expensive. That tire cost more than my 285/35/19 BFG KDW2. Sorry to hear that man. GL

Actualy I was wrong. I forgot my wheels were staggered and I read the size of a rear wheel. They are 245/35/19, which was actualy in stock somwhere. So I got a new tire $224 installed. So not as bad as I thought, but it sucks cause the tire was in good condition.

Actually, I think it's better for you if you asked them if they can plug and patch it for better fix.

That nail has a washer on it, I doubt that it is even a 10 penny, some kind of specialty roofing nail or something and its not too close to the edge to have an interior patch put on by someone that knows what he is doing.

Then consider a pair for the front when they wear a bit more. (Something easier to get )

Bad luck on those frickin nails. I had one in the left rear and one in the right rear within 4 weeks on original tires. Both near the sidewall. Decided to replace instead of repair them.
Dang waste of a barely used tires.
