Default Offsets

Basic offset question. Well actually maybe not basic but here goes.

When people say Negative Offset, that actually makes the wheels farther out correct? What i mean is, if i were to say my offset was negative or something, does that mean that my wheels will be farther apart (closer to hitting the fender or actually coming out from under the car). And if i want to make my wheel base length longer, are wheel spacers the trick? And how do i know what size spacers to get?

the lower the offset 10 , 5 , 0 ect. the wheel will be closer to the fender. The higher th offset 30 , 35 , 40 the wheels will looked tucked in twords the middle of the car.

when i get spacers, does that raise the offset? like if lets say my wheels right now say 20 offset or something, does a 10mm spacer make it more like a 10 offset? Or do i have to get like a -10mm spacer

if you have a 20mm to start out with and you get a 10mm spacer it will be 10mm offset. you can not go more then the current offset you have, just less.

Correct. Kind of. Offset is the distance between the mounting surface and physical center of the wheel. Above is a wheel with a negative offset.

A spacer will not change the wheel offset: it is what it is. A spacer will alter the way that the wheel fits in relation to the hub. Your numbers above are correct.

Another thing to keep in mind guys is excessively low offsets (and subsequent increases in track) will slightly increase bearing and tire wear. Therefore going as wide as you can go is not always the best. Moderation they say in Japan.

Cheers,
