oh dude, stock 18s(non rays) are heavy as hell, youd be hard pressed to get anything heavier. their 27lbs

you can easily get a set of 20lb 19" rims without too much trouble.

I want some rims and tires that don't weight more than stock rims and tires, and you pointed out that yours actually weight less and you have 19s, some of the ones I am looking at. So are yours 8lbs lighter for each rim with or without tires and what kind of tires are you running?
Toyo tires (the best) and 19 wheels, ALL 4 sets were 8lbs lighter TOTAL.

GOOD LUCK, 20 lbs "CLAIMED" or "ACTUAL" wt??? there is a HUGE difference, HUGE. My fronts were 22 lbs 19X8", rears were a bit more (can't remember for sure, but they are 10" wide).

there are some lightwt 19s, but not many at the 20lb mark, NOT saying there aren't any, b/c there are, BUT not very many (btw, I am talking ACTUAL wts!!). And yes, there are plenty of wheels that are like the stock 18" at 27 lbs PLUS, basically 3/4 of the wheels out there will weigh more. there area TON that wiegh less, BUT if you just buy average wheels, most will be right around that same wt.

Believe me, I did a LOT of research on this wheel thing, still doing more research on getting light wt lugs to save a few more lbs and gain security (locking mechanism)

Well, rodH, I really like your rims, and was thinking about the rodH specials. Of course, I am in Arkansas, so don't worry, lol. I like the polished ones a little and thinking about those, although the brushed ones look a little more refined. With your weights given for your rims and tires, we all know 18s would be lighter, but your 19s keep your weights within the range of stock, and really that is all I would be asking for.

It has been said that the stock 18s are 27lbs, while the track ones are 18lbs. How much were just your rims, rodH??? Thanks in advance for your help.

STOCK touring wheels I weighed at 54 lbs-FRONTS, 56.5-REAR.

these Fronts=49.5 and REARS=57.

So I guess I lost 8 lbs, I am still going to get after market light wt lugs that COME with a wheel locking system as well.

not bad considering that I went with a larger wheel and MUCH bigger tires.

IIRC, the wheels were 22lbs-Front and 26 lbs rear (not absolutly sure on rear wt)

if you got the money, then go for 19s they look sweet on the Z, well depends on the wheels you get.

Hi All,

On our way to lunch today, my friend who has 18s on 35 tires hit a pot hole. I can tell you that it is a horrible sound. That situation made me think about whether I should get 18" or 19" Volks TE37. I've read all the reasons for both. Can someone with 19s tell me what the ride is like? Have you bent any rims? Are you totally worried every time you hit a pot hole? Are you on 40s or 35s?

the ride on 19"s is a bit harsher than the 18's

I have 18's with 255/40 F&R and 19's with 245/35 and 275/35.

on the 18s the extra sidewall helps, acceleration is better for me and with the 255 all around it gives my Z a more neutral handling tendency

prioritize what you want to accomplish.. 19's are more expensive and a bit harsher ride but look great, 18s tend to be cheaper and easier to get a lighter setup

The bigger the wheel the more preasure you need to run in the tire . Which makes it ride like chit .Ive ridden in Z with 20's and would never get them . I have 17's and got 18's coming .Ive used my dealers personal car and he has 18's and there's not much difference between the two

Had to make the same decision a couple of months ago & went with 18's. The 19's look a little bit nicer, but has a high risk of getting bent if you hit a rough bump & with so much money invested I went w/ 18's. The ride is not as hard too.

I just got 19" Volk GT7s. Just go to a local 350z meet and check out the people with 19s vs 18s. After going to one myself and seeing the 19s, that clinched it in my mind no doubt. Just get some decent quality light weight 19s.

18s for me, I went from stock 18s to Nismos. Wanted handling and ride. The 18s look good, and give me the performance I desire.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your pictures and experiences. I am going to try going to a local meet to check out the wheel sizes. I don't track my car but I do like canyon runs. On a performance level, I read that Infiniti will be introducing a sport package on the G35 2005 which includes improved suspension and 19" wheels. I also noticed that Nismo is now offering their wheels in 19". Performance loss couldn't be that great otherwise these companies would not offer such wheels, right?

Regardless... THANKS for your input!

Default 18" or 19"

I have 19" volk Te37's with 245/35/19 front 275/35/19 rear tires and they are a lot lighter than the stock 18" touring wheels! I was worried about the size and weight but now I know that the 19" wheel was a good decision. Don't be scared get what you want.

Just chiming in on this trend again, can't believe you guys found this trend, I posted it last summer, lol. Well, I did buy the 19s and IMO they do look the best and I don't regret it. But if you are thinking strictly performance, the 18s have the advantage of you being able to buy drag radials for them to get more traction for your car if you go FI or something. You can't buy these tires if you go with 19s.
