As the title says, tonight I'll be receiving some nitto NT555's for my Z.

This is on a base model Z with stock 17" rims. Right now it has stock 235's on it and they will be replaced by 255's.. I got a flat tire and the tire had to be replaced so I got 2 rear tires for now. They were $140 a piece which I didn't think was that bad.

I was wondering if anyone is using these tires? I've heard great things about them but I've never actually ridden in a car with them.

 

A great time to ask about tires is before buying.

That said, I recently searched 350Z accidents in the rain, and annotated those drivers on Nitto 555 tires. The list is reasonably long. Anecdotal evidence of poor wet handling? Perhaps.

 

Where is it possible to search for 350Z accidents in the rain, and then on top of that find what type of tires they were using?

 

I searched Nitto in the 350Z forum, then looked at recent accidents. Just use common sense and you should be fine.

 

I've owned the Nitto 555's in on more than one occasion, and it rains once in awhile over here. They suck. Read: HORRIBLE. Oh, wait, you already bought them? Guess it's a little late now, isn't it...

 

+1 on the Nitto NT-555 they suck. I have tried them in the past on my 350Z. In the rain they don't grip to well in the rears.

 

Well, the tires are on the car.. And actually it was raining as I was coming into work today.

I didn't notice the car losing any traction but I drive pretty slow in the rain.. They seemed just as good as the stock tires in the rain.

Yesterday coming home from work it was dry out and I launched the car a few times, the tires felt very nice to me. Alot better then stock, that's for sure.

So the only complaint people have about these tires are poor wet traction?

 

It's all relative, depending on what you've run before. Given the many types/sizes of tires I've run on various cars, I can tell you they were nearly the worst in the rain. Basically as bad as poor stock tires. Good luck with those. To anyone else thinking of getting them, I highly advise against it (if you drive frequently in rain). Even for their cheap price, there are better alternatives.

 

Falken 452 would probably be a much better choice , prices are pretty dam close too.

 

Nittos suck. The only appeal for them is the price and fitment. Ask yourself this question, "How many professional world wide racing events are sponsored and run Nitto tires?" And when I say professional I am refering to F1, Cart, WRC, Lemans, NASCAR, JGTC ...etc not SCCA, Formula D, NOPI, ...etc.

 

I don't drive much in the rain (I drive a '89 mercury grand marquis in bad weather).

These tires feel great in the dry weather, I launched the car about 3-4 times yesterday and it hooked up very good every time. Wayyy better then stock.

 

Then you have to ask yourself what the tire was designed for.. Look at all of the people in NHRA that are sponsered by Nitto. Look at all the 1/4 and 1/8th mile tracks sponsered by Nitto.

It's an affordable tire that is great for tire traction but doesn't hookup very well in the rain.

It's funny how some people can call them one of the best tires they've ever used then the next post is about how terrible they are.

 

Plenty of people dont like them on dry roads either.

 

I can't see why they wouldn't like them on dry roads. Sure there is always something better, but for $140/per tire there aren't alot of tires that hookup as good as them.

 

So how are those bad boys? Driven in the rain?

 

i have those tires in 225/45/18 in front and 245/45/18 in rears. They are nice tires. I had plenty of tires before. There are better for the price though but it's not a bad choice of tires. It performs horrible in the rain though.

 

Every tire review is going to have some great reviews and some bad, it's a matter of preference, driving style/skill, and how the owner perceives the drive. If you look at Nitto's web site on this tire, they state: "Both the tread pattern and the compound were optimized for dry performance." It specifically says it is a summer oriented performance tire...so why the surprise if you bought them or are thinking to buy them that they might not be/have been the "ultimate" piece of rubber when it rains?

I am about to pop some Neo Gens on my Volks that I am getting this week...I wanted the Invo's, but not the right tire set up I wanted. Anyone specifically ever use this model tire? I've done some hard research on them and supposedly are great for dropped vehicles and allegedly pretty good for wet or dry conditions though their web site have them marked lower than the 555's! It was either the Nitto's or the Falken Azenis ST

 

Drove around in a down pour yesterday coming home from work.. About a 45 minute drive. I didn't feel the tires slide around at all.

Of course I wasn't driving stupid because it was raining but if you stay out the gas it seemed just as good (if not better) then the stock tires.

Gotta drive the mach1 home today and that thing has bald bald bald BFG's.. it's already raining too

 

I've owned Nitto 555's on 3 different vehicles and i will agree that they are not very good in the rian but do they kickass in the dry.
