I've searched for threads regarding alternate tire sizes for the stock Rays without luck.

Front 18x9 +30
Rear 19x10 +30

Stock tires:
Front 245/40/18
Rear 265/35/19

I've checked sizes on the following two setups and they should both meet the VDC requirements:

Front 255/40/18
Rear 285/35/19

Front 265/35/18
Rear 295/30/19

Does anyone have experience regarding fitment? Any issues with the 295 rears or 265 fronts on those rim specs? Thanks for any help.

I can tell you what not to use-do not use P275/40/19-i just installed
those last week-way too tall-try to stay real close to the same diameter
as the stock size rears are 26.3 inches tall-the ones i put on are 27.7 inches,
slowed the car down on accel on straights on roadcourse last weekend
throws speedo and odometer way off and shifts funny on automatic trans

 

I'm running 255/40/18s and 275/35/19s. I considered the 285s in the rear, but the 275s kept the stock stagger, were a good deal cheaper and should provide less understeer. Also, for a stock car power wise, the 275s are more than enough. However, I do think the 285s would better fit the 10inch rear rim.

I'm quite pleased with the larger tires. It could be the combination of better tires, RE050A pole positions, along with the larger size, but I feel the car handles much better and has an increased limit. Since getting the new tires, I haven't taken it to the track, but have done a good amount of aggressive canyon runs.

BTW, I've had PS2s on a previous car, so it's hard to make a comparison, but thus far, I feel the RE050A PPs are just as good if not better. Certainly no reason to spend more on the PS2s IMO.

 

people run 275/35 on a 10.5 but i run 285/35 it depends if you like a little stretched or almost no stretch.

You have a 10" so it's really up to you....

I have 255's up front on my 9.5" I think i should have gotten one size up to 265 but again i'm .5" bigger in width. So it's personal preference if you want to go 265 or 255.

Thanks for the replies! I have lowered the car on the Nismo S-tune susp, I also cut down the rear upper spring seats - the drop is now about equal front and back. I will probably try the 285/35/19 and 255/40/18 setup. I thought about using 265/40/18 up front (keeps the stock stagger) but the sidewall height is getting a bit up there.

The only problem with the 285's is you cant get the RE050A PP's in that size. Have to stick with the std RE050a (which I am fairly impressed with compared with the stock Bridgestones on my 03), or move up to PS2 or Yokohama's (both more $$).

Oh well, I guess I'll just enjoy tearing up the tread on these stockers for a while .

can anyone give me some advice about this setup with the 06 rays?

front 245/45/18
rear 285/35/19?

I want to go with those in the front since I already have a brand new pair, and it raises the front of the car 0.7" (I'm dropped on tanabe gf 210 1"/1.2" and I have the veilside front/nismo sides, so I need to raise it up a little)


I'm fairly certain the rear's won't rub, but I'm also concerned about the vdc

The front and rears are almost the same diameter, with the rear only being 0.5" larger than the front
