I have Motegi Touges on my car. Granted I worked for Motegi at the time and got a silly deal but I like them either way. They are 18x10s and 18x 9 and they weighted a few pounds less than my factory 17x7s. Just be carfull with the clear coat it is soft and American Racing/Motegi is picky about warrenty. But you could get a full set for say 6 7 hundo.

When looking for rims, I consider in this order... First, is it a brand I've heard of? Second, how much does it weigh? Third, do I like the look? Fourth, what's the cost?

depends on your priorities of looks vs performance vs cost.

lots of people have "knockoffs" around here...those kazeras, rota, axis are all knockoffs. The Volk and work purists chastize those people but there are some more well known copycats that are making decent wheels. Are they as good as volk, work or nismo...no, but if you're on a budget and want something that looks decent you'll be fine.

I would also check the private classifieds here as you could buy a more expensive set of used wheels for alot less $$

There was an article in Modified which says that 1 lb saved on rotational mass (ie. rims/wheels) = 10 lbs else where on the car. So if you can save 5 lbs on rotational mass on each wheel, it equals 200 lbs saved on the weight of you car. Point is, buy some strong and light wheels - you'll have better acceleration, better cornering, and better braking. If you can't afford them yet I'd suggest saving up because it's worth it.
redo your math. I saved 28 pounds by going to Enkei RPF1's/KDW2's annnd i figured it was similar to losing 280 pounds. 5 pounds of rotational weight is like 50 pounds of dead weight on the car. If you want to save money but still lose weight and look pretty good look at Enkei RPF03's. they look amazing. I just didnt get them cause they were a few pounds heavier (still lighter than stock) and didnt come quite as wide (still wider than stock), but they look better than my RPF1's imho.

expensive is not always better...

some high end 3 piece wheels such as HRE have been banned from SCCA for breaking during use.
