Default Dealership BS or Not?

I went to Dessert Nissan to get the tire feathering problem resolved. The service guy said that my warranty expired 04/01/07. He said that since it's out of warranty it will cost $800 to repair the tire feathering issue.

I told him about the TSB and he replied that it doesnt matter. The warranty expired.

Is this some BS or what? Didn't they extend the warranty for the tire feathering since NIssan ****ed up?

TSB - TSB 03-006a 2003 Tire Road Noise When Braking - Revision (is it only for 2003?)

The service guy went off talking about that I would also have to get some suspension parts replaced.

I called all the dealership and they are saying the samething.

The United Nissan didnt have a clue what tire feathering is.

So what gives? I think this is BS. I'm already starting to see the nasty side of Nissan.

Screw buying the extended warranty.

If it's out of warranty, it's out of warranty...
To extend the warranty, you generally have to pay extra for an extended rider/ declaration page.

But why would they say that I need to replace suspension parts.

Isn't the fix to replace the tire and alignment?

If it's still feathering, it sounds like they're at the end of the Toe Adjustment. They probably want you to buy a Toe Adjuster Arm that will allow them to further adjust the Toe to spec... And those ain't cheap.

Neither of your links function.

I do not have a copy of the latest Nissan feathering letter (free tires and alignment), but I believe that the end date has long passed.

But if its on the TSB then the warranty doesnt really apply, right? Its a manufacturer's defect and should handled. PM Jeff@westcovinanissan (not sure if thats his screenname), he'll give you a straight forward explaination

No. A TSB is simply an addition to the maintenance manual. It has nothing to do with the warranty.

Only safety or emissions related TSBs are valid past the warranty period. As davidv pointed out, a TSB is nothing but a set of instructions to the dealer on how to fix a specific problem.

You can't expect to bring a 10 year old car into a dealership and get something fixed under warranty.
