I lost about 3 MPG when going from the OEM Potenza's to big-*** Michelin PS2s (255/285). Why? Rolling resistance. It's the price you pay for all that traction. Even wonder why cyclists ride on such thin tires?

Are you talking about the brake rotors? The braking surface should always be bright and shiny, the rest of the rotor will get kinda' rusty but that's normal. Rotors don't need to be replace until they've either worn thin, cracked or warped.

Not really. The majority of the disc stays shiny. The outside edge, inside edge and the "hat" get rusty but the hat is hidden behind the hub of the wheel.

If it really bothers you, you could get them sand blasted then you could paint the non-braking surfaces with some high-temp black paint.
