Why 35 profile on 18 x 9.5" rim??
It seems like everyone who has 18" rims are running a 35 profile tire - no matter what the width? Why do you guys do that?
It seems as though, according to the miata calculator, that 255/40/18 is an (almost) perfect match for our stock 225/45/18 - same with 275/40/18 in the rear. Yet everyone seems to downsize them a bit. Is it because with a smaller 18" rim, the more meat of the 40 tire makes them look smaller? I've gone through a lot of threads/pictures and can't seem to determine if that's the case.
I personally was planning on getting the Rota Torque's with a 40 profile tire, since Wisconsin roads suck - I need all the cushion i can get. However, I don't want to get the 40 if it looks like crap.
Thanks guys

I am dropped on eibach pro kit. I have a friend that went with the 40s and it makes the rims look smaller because of the extra side wall. That is why I went 35. I have hit plenty of pot holes and no problems.

I'm kinda running crazy sizes.
275/35R18 fronts
285/40R18 rears.
Yes my 285/40 tires LOOK SICK and DO NOT RUB and are AWESOME.
I'm actually thinking of a 295/35 when I get new tires in the future . . . will have to inflate them less for my 9.5" wheel.

When I had 18's I ran the same size tires. It looked great. IMO 275/40 tires are too big for my taste. Too much sidewall for me.
