Default Polished Lips and Rock Chips!

Ok guys, I give up. I don't know how to deal with this. In late March I mounted a brand new set of PIAA Super Rozzas. They have about 2.5" deep lip in front and 4.5" lip in the rear. It was spotless and without blemish for about a day. Now it seems that every couple of days I find a new dent or scratch or something on the lip surface of one of the wheels. I think what happens is that something hard or sharp (like a rock) bounces into the wheel and leaves its mark. I have only had the wheels since March and based on the damage I see so far, I can't imagine what they will look like after a few more years.

So my question to the guys who post up their pictures of seemingly spotless deep dish rims, is how the hell do you keep your polished lips protected??? Is it just deception in the photographs and the wheels are actually more chewed up looking when you get up close? Should I be using some sort of protective coating on the polished surface?

Maybe this is specific to the PIAA wheels (i.e. maybe the top finish is softer than say Work or Volk?). I hope that isn't the case...I had read mostly good things about these wheels before buying, which certainly helped my decision process.

Or is this why people sell their rims and buy new ones every 5 days....

It depends on the road conditions, if you live in an area thats has a lot of debris the wheels are going to look bad after a few months maybe weeks. Just have them re-polished if you don't like it. I wish my Volks never got scratches on them but the world isn't perfect and it's a part of life, new things get used and beat up then you move on to other things.

I'm thinking of getting some beater rims that looks decent. That would be my solution is to use beater/ track rims and then use PIAA's when you want ride on style.
