Lugcentric Wheels.. HELP!!
You guys are always so great w/quick feedback and now I need it more than ever! I just bought some aftermarket 18s and the car is in a shop overnight bc nobody could figure out what to do before the bs "6pm" closing time.. What about the 9-5 ppl who work everyday.. anyways, that's off topic.. back to the story.. So, they didn't mount the wheels bc they're not hubcentric, and I later found that they were in fact "lugcentric" (by calling up the wheel vendor right after leaving the place). So, they had me running around to random motorsport shops looking for rings that would fit and the one guy at the motorsport place said no, there's no standard ring to fit my wheel. I guess my question is how safe/unsafe is it to be rolling on lugcentric wheels on the Z? What is the proper way to mount lugcentric wheels? It sounds like you let the car sit on the wheel AND THEN start tightening, is this correct? I don't race or anything but sometimes as a DD feel like I do.. lol.. anyways, I just hope this setup is ok/safe, as it seems alright bc many ppl have done this.. I just don't know how it will turn out on the Z? I googled a little and it sounds like some said a proper alignment can only be done on a Hunter 9700 bc of the "special" add-on lugcentric adaptor thing the machine has and bc it is for lugcentric wheels.. I dunno if I even read that correctly.. so I guess, doing alignment at this place, as I'm sure they don't have the equipment, would be pointless? Also, I don't want to do any of this PERIOD if I'm getting vibrations and nonsense like that at 45+mph or 65+, etc, etc.. Well, I have to call them up tomorrow morning and let them know how I want to proceed.. seeing as how they already mounted one of the tires to the new wheels, but it's just sitting on the floor at their garage. As of now, I plan to tell them just to go ahead w/the lugcentric lugs and installing that way.. I can't believe I have to pretty much teach these guys how to do their job and then end up paying them.. WTF.. that's exactly what the vendor told me.. that he'd simply laugh in the face of these incompetent guys at this shop for not figuring out that the wheels were "lugcentric".. anyways, vendor said he doesn't know what if any spacers his other customers have used, but that the wheels have been successfully put on G35s, 350Zs w/o problems... . Anyways, PLEASE just give whatever input you guys can and as SOON as you can.. I really am in a "bind" and not sure what to do!
what kinda wheels? whats a lugcentric...????
probably all you need are hubrings which shoulda came with the wheels.
if not any local wheel vendors should have them for like 20 bucks a set.
good luck man

that was just the problem, though, no hubrings for these wheels..
to my understanding, atleast, "lugcentric" means special lugs used to center the wheel against the hub.. (mine are supposedly angled at 60 degrees, and this makes up for not having hub rings.).. i just never installed wheels like this and don't know how to install and how safe it would be on a car like the Z?

Lugcentric is using the lugs to center the wheel. Every car was lugcentric until they invented hubcentric.
I'm no expert, but if the shop you went to doesn't know how to properly tighten a wheel, then you should go somewhere else. If the center bore of the wheel is smaller than the hubcentric ring on the disk, then that could be a problem.

Yeah, I'm thinking about just having them mount/balance the tires to the wheels and that's it. I'll deal w or w/o mounting the actual wheels. I don't think they know what the hell they're doing, haha. (Hope my car is still there and ok? ..lol.) No, they seem like good guys, and I wouldn't have trusted em with my car if I didn't think so, but just the fact that they didn't figure this out on the spot makes me think twice about having them do any install/alignment, etc.. so don't think I will at this place atleast.
