Default Rays Track Rims setup

After considering many, many aftermarket wheel options (Advan, Volk, Work), I've finally decided to go with the Rays Track Rims that I bought 2 years ago and have been sitting in my livingroom ever since.

They're truly lightweight, good looking, and maintain stock appearance. Plus, I've already paid for them!

With that decision behind me, I'm now considering the following:

Tires
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
245/40/18 front, 255/45/18 rear

Spacers
Project Kics 20mm/20mm front and back

Any feedback/suggestions before I order the tires and spacers...?

Anyone have pix of a similar setup?

Thx guys!

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is an excellent choice.

The rear tires are 33 mm taller than the front. I don’t like it.

For performance, the wheels are fine as is. For looks you can add 20 mm spacers.

According to the specs on TireRack, the height difference for the stock tires would be 0.9" (26.8" rear - 25.9" front).

With 245/40/18 and 255/45/18 tires, the difference would be 1.3" (27" rear - 25.7" front).

Is that enough to mess with ABS or TC?

With the Eagle F1s, that looks to be the best combo if I want to go with a slightly wider tire.

There are better size combinations if you're looking for both looks & performance.

STAGGERED SETUP
F 245/40/18 R 265/40/18
F 255/40/18 R 275/40/18

SAME SIZE SETUP (all four corners)
245/40/18 (this is my setup with my track rims for autox)
255/40/18
265/40/18
275/40/18

Thanks.

I was considering the 265/40s but according to TireRack, that's too wide for the 8.5" rims. I know lots of people run them anyway, but since this is my daily driver, I'm being more conservative.

Also, the Goodyears aren't avail in 265/40... only 265/35.

245/40 and 255/40 combo works great too . Its enough for VDC not to flip.

And pretty close to neutral handling as well. Interesting!

Im running almost the exact same wheel/spacer combo.....except im on eibach springs. So i was worried about a 265 rubbing in the back.

Im running a 15mm spacer in the F, and a 20mm in the rear. I just got 245/40 F and 255/40 R toyo t1r's.

If you dont lower it you can run a 265. Although most will say that is too much tire for the rear wheel. If you want to lower your car then you cannot run a 265.....i dont think. Im about as close as you can get with out rubbing right now. i think a 265 would rub.

The spacers really improve the stance. It makes a world of difference.

Thx.

Do you think you would have had rubbing issues w/ 20mm spacers up front? (Believe your Eibachs lower the car more than my Hotchkis springs do.)

Any pix of your ride?

Remember that the wheel widths are *recommendations* not *rules*.

I run 245/40R18 front and 275/40R18 rear (Kumho Ecsta ASX all-seasons, since we actually do have four seasons) on my stock Track rims. They work very well.

You should wait for the Dunlop Sport Z1 tires that Tirerack will be stocking this coming August. Lots of rubber.

I think a 20mm will be fine in the front. You could maybe even do a 25mm. I wish now i went with a bigger spacer in the front....but oh well.

BTW the last pic was when i still had OEM size tires. 225/245

Hella--

Thx for posting the pix. Looks good!

archspeed--

Haven't heard anything about the new Dunlops. Do you have any more info?

PDX_Racer--

Point taken. I'm just at a period in my life where I want to avoid even the slightest possibility of unnecessary complications, so I'm taking a very conservative approach to modding the Z.

I just saw it yesterday from the Tire Rack mini-catalogue mailed home to me. Looks very aggressive. I read that they were available in Japan for the last 2 years as drift-oriented tires and are now being updated for US commercial use. In the catalogue it is said that the Z1 will be used for autocross, drifting, and track events, while still drivable on the streets.

Think of it as a bigger-sized Falken Azenis tire

I'm going to guess that the Dunlops have a pretty low rating when it comes to longevity, typical of sticky track tires.

For a daily driver, I'll sacrifice a bit of handling at the limits for a tire that lasts longer. The Goodyear F1s have a 280 wear rating, pretty good, altho they won't have the grip of those Dunlops.

I'd suggest getting the wheels widened so you can run an even wider tire.

If I were going FI, maybe.

But for a NA daily driver, there's no need for super-wide tires. Bigger isn't always better.
