Default Q on Track Rays rims

Ok, I had to refinish my rims because of an accident. But what I noticed that is that the scratched spot had three layers showing: the clear coat, the paint and a white layer which I assume to be the primer. Does that mean the rims are not powder coated since powder coating does not use primer? The rim shop is REPAINTING it. I just wanted to make sure that they are not paint when they should be powder coating. Any help is appreciated.

They why is there a base coat (primer) ?? I don't get it... Since they are produced by Rays for Nissan, it's possible that Nissan painted the rims right? Can anyone actually confirm this?

To answer your question, what I cna tell you is that if you have the irms like mine (click here) then they are painted, not powder coated.. I am not sure about any other Z rims, but I know mine are painted because there was a discussion about this in a thread a while back. About how easily the paint chips off the rims compared to powder coated rims.

Hope that helps!

perhaps theres a base powder coat?

typicly rays are powdercoated cause it resists chipping, but is vunerable to chemical wear, so they put clear coat over it.

they could have employed another method on the nissan rims, but seems unlikely.
