I read somewhere that powder-coating forged wheels will compromise it's structural rigidity. Is this true? I'm thinking about doing it to my Volks.

on a good forged wheel i wouldnt be worried. I wasnt and still am not.

I've heard the same. That the heat from powdercoating can decrease the integrity of the wheel. I've also heard, but cannot confirm that powdercoating is more harmful to forged wheels rather than cast wheels. Also cracks in the wheel can be hidden after powdercoating.

Another option is painting, but powdercoating will offer a more durable finish.

Depends on the temperature at which the powder is being baked at. If it is low at 275 deg it shouldn't affect the structural integrity. The type of powder and color will dictate the temperature. Some will be baked at higher temps, some types of powder does not require baking at length. Good paint such as PPG or Dupont with clearcoat will be just as strong. Many wheels are painted, not powder coated as many people believe.

Hmmm...so I guess it depends on who does it and how they do it? On that note, does anyone know of a good place to go to in So Cal? I'm near Pasadena.
