General tires are great if you don't get a bad one. I work for a tire shop that deals in Goodyear/Continental/General and they all suck if you ask me. I've had to investigate so many warranty claims it can make my head spin. On the other hand they have a great ride and if you don't get a bad tire (Out of round, slipped belt) they're worth it.

i've had a few bad goodyears(radial pulls) but i've yet to experience a bad continental. The quality of my 255/45/17 contisportcontacII from tirerack were just amazing. They were made in germany and they balanced exactly the same with two tiny little weights at the exact spot. They general UHP i got recently from tirerack are very well made.
