Default Remounting tire pressure sensor??

Has anyone who has purchased aftermarket wheels that do not readily accept the pressure sensors mounted them another way, such as epoxy or bands?

Already have the bands and will be doing a test fit this coming week. Was gonna do it this weekend but I missed the UPS man on Friday and have to wait until Monday to get my wheels....

I'll be taking pics of what I work out and will post them to this site as soon as I am done.

Sounds great! Where did you get the bands? How will you mount the sensors to them? I've heard some mentions of epoxy, but I can just imagine a sensor popping loose and flying around inside the tire...that would suck.

I got the bands (60in, will have to trim) from an industrial pipe and supply store. I am going to rivet an "L" brace to the band that has a hole in it. I am then going to use the valve stem of the sensor and the cap (with a couple of washers) as the nut and bolt (loc-Tited) and run it through the "L" bracket. Presto, a removable TPS...

Sounds pretty good.....very clever. I do some metal fabrication designing and if I had an unmounted sensor to play with I was thinking about designing some sort of simple aluminum (7075 T-6) bracket for the sensor that I could mount directly to the inside of the wheel. Do you think that might work? If it did, I could have them CNC machined in larger quantities for others who might need them as well.

It might if you could make it universal to fit any wheel.

I took off the front wheel, and took it to a tire shop to have the sensor removed (the valve stem and sensor are one piece) and had the valve stem replaced with a standard one.

They didn't even charge me for it.

Does the computer in your Z keep sounding the alarm now that the sensor is gone, or does it ignore it?

I'll probably do the same thing as the time gets closer to having my iForged wheels completed...of course from some of the horror stories I've read on this site, that may be several weeks (or months!) from now.

Perhaps if the custom bracket has the standard curve that would fit a 19" wheel, and can mount on any inside flat surface, that might work. I'm anxious to see how yours works out...it's probably the best and easiest solution.

By the way, I love Santa Barbara...I went to college there at Brook Institute of Photography. I'm jealous...I wish I could live there!

Here's a pretty good link for some banding supplies.

Don't know about my alarm as my car is still at the stereo shop for my audio install and I pulled the sensor off there.
