Default tar on wheels

whats the best way to remove tar from wheels? went through Yosemite and they were re graveling all the roads so my car has a ton of rocks with tar stuck to my wheels and all over the car.

the bug/tar removr wont harm the wheels?

Carefully. Any solvent that will remove tar will remove the adhesive that secures the weights.

a. Position the wheel so that the weights are at the top.
b. Try some WD-40 and a toothbrush.

Tarminator is an excellent tar remover and available at Target and many other places. be careful when you are rubbing on the tar...after it hardens it will scratch the finish on your rims. i use latex gloves and spray the area...let it dwell for a bit...then gently pick away at the chunks. the smaller bits will desolve very quickly.

regarding the toothbrush mentioned above...watch out for the bristles...they may also scratch the finish. if the brush is old, etc it can damage the finish. i learned this the hard way on darker vehicles and cleaning polish residue away from around emblems.
