Default VOLK GTS - lips re-chromed

thought i would post some pics of my wheels that i had to get redone since the bodyshop ruined the original finish on the lips. I had seen wheels that had been stripped, repolished and then cleared and i wasnt too impressed with how they looked so i went with the chrome instead. a little blingy but much happier with this finish then what i saw on a wheel that had been repolished.

specs: f 19x9.5 +17 R 19x10.5 +18

the body shop payed for it since they messed them up in the first place. specifically told them not to use any wheel cleaners but they didnt listen......

not sure how much it cost but i know it was pretty expensive. was done at a shop here in SoCal in Newport Beach called Grand Prix Performance.

i wouldnt have let them chrome the lips. 1, thats extra weight. 2, ive heard chroming a forged rim weakens it. Did you get any kind of guarantees from them?

They should have just replaced the entire set.

GL with it. BTW, any pics of how it looked repolished?

chrome plating is so thin i cant imagine it weighs much at all.

Did you take the wheels apart yourself or did that shop

no pics of a repolished lip. saw it at a shop i was at.

beleive me, i argued with the shop for a new set but they would only offer to "fix" them. so my options were to have them fixed or take them to small claims.

the only thing i was worried about is the chrome peeling after a while but they said they guarantee the work for as long as i own the rims.

i just didnt like the look of a repolished lip w/clear coat. It was very dull looking and could see every little imperfection. ie scratches

Looks good Jo! Put some tire shine on and post some high res close ups of the lips. They turned out great!

that looks great and so does your Z, love the headlights...but didn't the chrome add considerable weight to the wheels?

i talked to Rick at Status and he told me that it might add a pound a wheel. im really not worried about a little extra weight since im not racing/tracking my car.

i care more about handling than i do speed.

rolling unsprung weight is the worst weight you can add.

did the shop have any difficulties taking the wheels apart? did they tell you what tq specs they used on the bolts?

aerospace 303, not greasy looking like armor but a bit shiner then a new tire look. lasts long, even fights off water. you'd love for the interior as well. great stuff.

any suggestions on where to pick some up?

edit- found it. looks like i'll be picking some up to try it out. thanks for the recommendation.

i tried some a while back - eagle1 or something like that - and the stuff flung all over my rear quarter panel and bumper.

thought i had removed the excess but i guess not good enough.
