Default 255's or 245's on the front

Just got my new wheels and am trying to figure out what size tires to get.

Wheels are 19x9 (+15) and 19x10 (+15).

Conventional wisdom here seems to be 245/35/19 and 275/35/19.

I am not sure why that is, since a 255/35/19 gives you a closer front/rear height match when paired with a 275 in the back.

It is an issue of weight? Rolling resistance? tire clearance?

I was all set on a 255/275 combo, but the new re050a pole positions don't come in a 255/35/19, so I am looking at a 245/35/19 pole position or a different tire...

I would think a 245/275 combo would mean more understeer... all alse being unchanged.

Thanks...

Tiff,
255 would be the optimal choice for the setup. Thats exactly what i am running right now. Which wheels did you get? Pics??

Conventional wisdom would tell you to go with the biggest tire you can fit.

Hey Vince, it's Bill.

I just picked these up for my redline...

We just got new tires for Tiff's car - 255 and 275 pole positions, but in 18". Tire choices in 19" are more limited. I can't get the pole position in a 255/35/19...

from A-spec Products:

F1 motorsports has a pic next to a redline...

Those are VERY nice looking wheels, but they look HUGE for a 19". Maybe it's because of the tires in that pic.

Thanks. Yeah, it's just propped up in front of the wheel/tire behind it. it's not actually mounted in that pic. Makes it look like a 20!

Hi Bill,
Those wheels look nice!!! And the lips look huge on those 19'. Definitely bigger than mine by a huge margin. Are 19x9 and 19x10 the widest they have? If Pole position has limited sizing, you can try Toyo T1-R's. I know they might not be the best tire, but they are pretty good for their price range. Again, the wheels are very nice...

OK... it'll look much better once mounted.

What I really like about that C in the pic is the door handles. Usually, Z's can't pull off the color-matched handles well. But it seems to work on Redline.

As far as tires are concerned, try BFG G-Force TA KDW2's.

Yeah, That's not my z, but the color-matched door handle looks pretty good.

I am not sure which tires yet.

Either Michelin PS2's or Eagle F1 GS-D3. I'd do the pole positions in a heartbeat if they offered it in a 255/35/19 for the front. I'll call tirerack to see if it's just not listed on their website, but I think it's just not offered in that size.

I LOVED the PS2 on the M3, but those were only 225/45/17 and 245/40/17 so they were not rediculously expensive. They are a little more $$ on these!

Thanks for the compliment. Front lip is 3.5" and rear lip is 4.5"

I think that's the widest they offer. They have more aggressive offsets for the ballers out there...
