You do get slightly more protection if you use a credit card through PayPal (not a debit card like I did). If the funds are still in the sellers account, the credit card will issue a charge back and effectively credit your account. I'm not sure they'll do it if the product arrives in a condition substantially different than described or only if it doesn't ship.
Either way, things can be hit or miss. I've PayPaled $2,000+ to a member on here and everything worked perfect. He even went out of his way to help me resolve an issue with UPS. Big props to statusne. Wish fairladyboss wasn't such a low life. Hope this helps.

Try using something like "escrow". They act like the middle man when dealing with large purchases.

Yeah, as was previously said, PayPal is not great for security. I just got semi-screwed by fairladyboss (the guy that posted a few before you). He sent me an exhaust without putting packaging inside the box (just tossed the mint exhaust into an empty box) and shipped it. Needless to say it arrived scratched, one canister was dented and the other's tip was bent. Still useable, but definitely not the way he pictured it and sold it to me. He told me that it was my problem that it was damaged and he wouldn't so much as provide his phone number for me to make a FedEx claim (not that they'd give me money considering it was the shipper's fault). I disputed it on PayPal for a partial refund. They said they only cover if the product doesn't ship if it is a private sale. You also have to make the claim within 45 days of the transaction (but better to do it earlier before the funds are released to the seller). Needless to say once, fairladyboss found out I couldn't get at his funds, he stopped responding to me. Now I'm stuck unless I sue him in small claims court.
