I put Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 typical 275/40/18 on my new 18x10 rears, and i couldn't believe how tall the sidewall is compared to other companies' 275/40/18! Almost 4x4 status lol

What's the best size for me to get to lower the sidewall height for great looking stance?

I thought about doing 285/35 but they don't make PS2's in 285s..I don't wanna downsize to 275/35 either.
Would going with 295/35 have shorter sidewall than my current setup? Is 295/30 an option?
Keep in mind that the car will be lowered more and my rim is 10" in width.

Do not use a tire calculator and figure this out.

 

I already tried tire calculator, but can't really trust that since my 275/40s are a lot different than the usual 275/40s I've seen.

 

hey kev, there is a lot of sidewall height difference between Mich and all of the other companies. haha 4x4 status.

well it goes like this the side wall series (34, 40, 45) all it is the percentage of the width of the contact patch (275, 285, 295). so if you get a 285 or 295/35 the side wall height will decrease making it not look 4x4 status, but the side wall won't be super skinny to the point that it looks ridiculous and increase wheel well gap. go for it.

295/35 actually would only have marginally shorter sidewall since the tires wide and won't be stretched out.
My option would be 295/30, but looking at these PS2s even 275/35 would be ok now.

 

true the PS2s in 275/35 would be a better fitment because of their side wall heights already being tall compared to other companies.

if you are planing on running 285/35 or 295/30-35 you will rub for sure not doubt. beside thats A LOT of rubber to roll ya know, haha.

i am still considering if i will want to go with 245/40 275/40 or 255/35 285/35. i am lowered 1"F 1.2R and have seen similar setups and it looks fine, consider if i get a 15 or lower offset that is. you said also that you might be wanting to run spacers?

 

Yea probably in the rear. Haven't decided if i'll do 5mm or 10mm. I'll see after I drop it on coilover first. Getting Zeal Function Xs

just as an FYI, I think both Discount Tire and Tire Rack have the diameters of the tires listed in the details for each tire.

 

You should get wider fronts as well, if you go with 295 rear. A 50mm size difference for the front will make your car a lot more prone to understeer. I have 265/295 PS2 setup and its a good combo.

 

Your not kidding about the understeer. I'm at about 40mm difference and I don't like the difference. Will be getting my new 255 in fron shortly.

 

Problem solved! Unfortunately Michelin doesn't make PS2s in 35 profile anything below 275s..talking about limited tire choices.
I went with 275/35 and looks MUCH better now. I just need to drop it asap with coilovers.
When I get next tires it'll probably be 255/35 front and 285/35..probably Goodyear GS-D3s.

 

245/40 and 285/35 is perfect.

 

Incorrect statement. It depends on his wheel offset - I know many members with 18x10" and 19x10" rear wheels in 285 or 295.
