Default Bridgestone RE050A PP or RE-01R?

I'm having a hard time deciding between these two. The price differences are not big at all. The RE050A PP is a Max Performance Summer Tire, while the RE-01R is an Extreme Performance Summer Tire. I'm just looking for some personal opinions on the RE-01R's and a comparison between the two if anyone has information on this.

If someone can point me to a direct comparison between these at either a different web site or a different thread, feel free to delete this thread.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...=None&x=56&y=4
^^^ Click that

for 245/35/19 they're $253 per tire.

Looks like I'll be getting the RE050A PP's...

The RE-01R's don't come with a 275/35/19 size... Blegh

RE050 are very good sticky tires. Granted mine are 305s in the back but i still love em.

I'm running RE-01R's right now and they're pretty sticky for a street tire. My only complaint is their sizes suck.

Not trying to jack your thread: I think this relates.

I'm looking at RE-01Rs on the front (245/40-18) and RE050A - or Pole Positions - on the rear (275/40-18) for a track/street setup.

Is this worth doing? I'm not familiar with running dissimilar compounds front and rear, but I think these are close enough to match up.

Besides I can't find a matched set front and rear in these sizes in anything worth getting. If somebody knows a good near R compound tire that would be good on both the track and the street, please let me know. I can't spend a lot of money, I need to stay in about the same price range (< $1K).

Dead thread bump

IMO, stick with the same brand at all corners.

Yeah, well, that happens when you use the search.

If we don't want old threads resurrected maybe they should be removed from the server after they are considered dead. Just my $0.02.

Going with the same brand, just having trouble getting matching fronts and rears to fit my rims and keep factory diameters.

Thanks for responding though.

RE-01Rs for sure if they were available in your sizes. For some reason, they're not that much more expensive than the RE050A PPs, well at least most of the time.

I'd go with the pole positions all around or the Advan sports which are roughly the same price in those sizes.

The RE050A PP has better treadwear, the RE01-R has better performance. What do you want to afford?

Has anyone tried Dunlops? I installed new D's on my wife's Pathfinder & the
jarring ride disappeared! Since I'm an old-timer (59), & didn't buy my Zed to
speed around town (dangerous/expensive, etc.), I'll be trying a set of D's, to
soften the Zed's stiff ride a bit. BTW, I'm new to the threads, an old man from Puerto Rico, AND IN LOVE WITN MY "NEW" '04 TOURING COUPE (no fea-
thering; DO have the driver's side power window glitch, & the gas latch re-
lease problem). Catch you later, guys!

I checked last night and for the majority of sizes, they both have a 140 treadwear rating.

Actually, that's false. The RE050A PP has a treadwear rating of 180.

Potenza RE-01R
Potenza RE050A Pole Position

I said for the majority of sizes, they both have the same 140 treadwear rating.

Bridgestone does rate the pole positions at 280, but just for a few sizes, at least for the sizes offered at the tirerack.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...irePageLocQty=

In fact, the RE-01Rs are rated 180 for over half of their tire listings at tirerack. The rest are 140.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...irePageLocQty=

Either way, similar treadwear should be expected.

I'm sure that the Tire Rack's information is wrong. Who are you really going to trust? The people who make the tires or the people who sell them?

Look at this giant picture provided by the Tire Rack. In the bottom right hand corner, you can cleary see on the tire's sidewall that it says treadwear 180.

On the bridgestone website, the RE-01Rs are all listed at 180 for treadwear rating.
http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tires...roduct_ID=1111

The RE050A Pole Positions are listed at both 140 and 280. The majority of sizes are listed at 140.
http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tires...roduct_ID=1113

According to the Bridgestone website, the RE050A PPs will actually get better treadwear for the majority of sizes.

I'm guessing you're running into the same sizing issues I did when looking at the RE-01's?
