Default Load Road Noise in Front at All Speeds

Hi everyone,

I have no idea how I would search for this specific problem. Within three days all of the following happened on the car: a) I changed out my old 20" wheels that the prior owner had for 18" Work XD9's from a trusted member of the board with appropriate tire in Falken 452; b) I took my car to a good dealership to have the rear axle click repaired and to have the fuel hose replaced; c) I realized someone (probably me) had over-torqued the front bolts pretty significantly and let all of them out and re-torqued to 85 ft./lbs.

After all of this occurred I started to notice a really loud road noise coming from the front at all speeds - it gets louder when I hit the brakes.

I thought it might be brakes for three reasons: 1) it gets louder when I hit the breaks; and 2) I was driving to Las Vegas and started to get a horrible vibration in the front end intermittently in breaking when I was going over 70, I stopped and let the brakes cool off and they were good for another hour, then it started again; and 3) I replaced the rear pads and rotors about 1000 miles ago but not the fronts.

On the other hand, it may not be only be brakes because the noise occurs even when no brakes are being applied, there aren't serious groove in the rotors, and doesn't seem to be rubbing.

What could this be? Alignment, balance ??!!

Help.

in case its been posted.

Are the inside edges of the front tires feathered?

That's my guess...

I also thought it might have been the front suspension deal, but I'm pretty sure that's not it. It happens at all speeds, from 5 miles per hour to 100.

The short answer to your question is "no."

Wheel bearings !!! Would be my first place to look. You should have looked up the Vegas Z/G group while you were in town.

if it was a wheel bearing, braking should reduce the vibration.

I think maybe you have a caliper stuck, and also retighten your wheels again.

Next time I'm in Vegas I'll definitely look you guys up. The front brakes are definitely due for a change anyway. I'm going to do that first, retighten the wheels and then look into the bearings. (Cheapest thing first is always best).
