noob question: how do you do this? measure from the outer side of the tire to he outer side of the fender and figure out what you need?

Dont quote me on this but I believe that on options website under the wheel spacer category there is a diagram on where and how to measure for spacers.

it's easiet to jack up the car, then put a 2nd jack under the suspension for that wheel and start compressing in...this will push the wheel up into the fender area, and from there, just measure the clearance. IMO this is the most accurate b/c when you're suspension compresses, the wheels usually camber in a certain amount, which give more clearance on the outside, and less on the inside.

With regard to safety, it seems to me that if the spacer is made properly (i.e. flat surfaces and close tolerance bore), and if the installer torques the fasteners properly to hold the spacer to the hub lugs, and to hold the wheel to the spacer lugs, then it's no different than running a wheel of the same width but with a lower offset (lower by the thickness of the spacer). This also depends on the mechanical strength of the lugs supplied with the spacer, but I bet the lugs supplied with Ichiba or H&R etc. would be as strong or stronger than the lugs that Nissan puts in their hubs. As Taurran mentioned the issue of increased bearing wear is specific to the overall offset of your wheel, i.e. the location of the wheel's center of gravity relative to the center of the bearing. The farther you overhang the weight, the more detrimental any vibrations in the system will be to the bearing. Making everything concentric to the hub (which is presumably concentric to the bearing) will ideally eliminate any vibration and maximize the life of your wheel bearing.

You can tell I've been thinking a lot about this. I am also considering spacers (purely for aesthetics) but I am considering 5mm or 10mm, so not as much of a concern as 25mm.
