You've obviously never driven a car with lightweight wheels. Losing 14lbs per corner will make dramatic improvements in every aspect of the car's performance.

I've been "tuning" different cars for about 9 years now, and I can definitely say that my favorite mods are mods that make a car more lively, not just pouring on hp gaining mods. I'd take a lightweight flywheel and wheels over an intake and exhaust any day.

Would there be a large effect on MPG?

As everyone else said, there will be a huge difference, in handling, braking and acceleration. After you get new rims, the old setup will feel much more sluggish in comparison.

too many variables to make guesses on mpg. all city driving? Bumper to Bumper, red light to red light, yeah I think you'd see gains. All highway mileage? not so much.

My buddy moved from stock '06 rims to 19" chrome Zenettis. I believe the weight was in the low 30 lb range.

He had a stock '06 base and I had a stock '06 track. While doing runs, we were dead even. After he got the chrome rims, I easily put a car length or two and would continue to pull. The results were the same regardless of the speed.

I have a very twisty drive to work, I recently threw my 17s back on from the heavy G coupe 18s, my car was much more nimble. without a doubt. I have just put very lightweight 19s on and they are somewhere between the 17's and heavy 18s.

I was not saying there would be "NO" difference, i think i said in my second post that the difference would not be minimal as in there would be A difference, but whether or not it would be dramatic depends, like i said, on the driver, and how much touch you have with your car, it just so happens that I DO have a car with light weight wheel, but i over hauled quite a few things when they got put on.... ie, coil overs with a 1.5" drop, stage 2 clutch, new tires, lightened flywheel, headers with a full exhaust, roll cage, interior strip down, and a new tune.... so i didn't attribute too much to the wheels them selves, now clearly people wiser than myself have chimed in with first hand experience, but i still stick to my feelings that it depends on how you drive the car.... someone who puts 40 pound rims on there car in my opinion probably doesn't push there car that hard, because the only reason to have 40 pound rims is because they look AMAZING, or at least ought to at 40 pounds a piece, and when you have flashy **** like that you don't see many people looking to ***k there flashy ride up... follow? therefor i assume he doesn't drive it hard, and on the limits of the cars ability's is where the real gains are felt... just my 2 cents...

sorry that response took so long, thats what i get for not subscribing to the threads i post on...

What wheels you choose to put on your car is your business. 20 or 40 pound wheels is OK with me.

The question is “Is there a performance difference?” The answer is a definitive yes.

If the question is subjective “Can I feel the difference?” then there is no answer. I haven't the faintest what you can and cannot feel.

Nice respones. And just so there are no doubts, I wasn't flaming you or anything, just stating my opinion. Sounds like you have quite the setup. Care to PM me what you're running? I'd like some opinions on a few things!

As much as i would LOVE to own a 350z, the car i was talking about was a 01 eclipse that i tweaked on for 2 years, i am on here because my little bro's friends grandma bought him a 350z cause he couldn't afford the insurance if she got him a Viper... (makes me so angry that i am not filthy loaded but hey...) Since i do most of the work myself i have to get involved here so i can learn what works best with the Z's... although i am putting a few of parts on his 05 z, i will have some numbers in about a month i hope, if this shitty weather would stop in STL. dual stillen ceramic coated intakes, test pipes, true dual injen exhaust, with new rims, and a stripped down interior with racing seats, he is still undecided about the cage but if we do one it will probly be a bolt in setup like i have seen on here on another post. He doesn't raace so it doesnt need to be up to spec, but has money burning a hole in his pocket so as soon as i can pin him down on what rims he likes and the weather permits i will put up some info before and after....
