so.. I just mounted up these Advans this weekend. I got a 2" drywall screw on the way home from mouting them (not the wheel in question). This has been a very f'd up weekend/week. But I love the wheels, when I'm able to use them.

car is 5 years old. always had OEMs. Never suspected wheel bearing problems.
mounted these 19s with 245/275s. The setup is INCREDIBLY lighter than my 18s.. but they are 9+22/10+25. I didnt think I'd have issues.
Well, I'm so frustrated right now. I spent all evening swapping around wheels. Thing is, I can drive out on OEMs and no noises. I can turn figure 8s briskly and nothing. I roll out of the garage with these Advans and turn, POP CLICK CLICK PING POP.. It doesnt even have a rhythm. But any time I turn, the right side it making noise. lots of it.
I've broken down everything, brake, bracket (re-torqued to 110).. shims. all is good. and again, no noise on OEM. So that seems to be a non issue.
That leaves me with lugnuts or bearings. I'd think the bearings would at least make alittle noise with OEMs. As for the lugs, they are brand new Gorilla bulge acorns. I know, they are crap. and seem to only be engaging about 2-3mm near the bottom. This is not ideal and I'm going to try to find some quality lugnuts locally.. or beg a vendor to rush some out to me.
but, I'm not sure that the issue either. I mean, it pops at 2mph. Surely the lugs arent that bad. They are torqued properly. The wheels arent new, but also seem to have been cared for well. They are low time and dont show much wear, if any.
And hubcentric rings (metal) do not make a difference.
Anyone else have a similar experience or maybe point me in a direction? Anyway to diagnose the wheel bearing?
thx,
tim

have you pulled the bearings out and looked at them? if theyre scored or pitted then they'll make some noise. periodically all bearings need to be pulled out, inspected, cleaned, re-greased and reinstalled.
also, i have seen a few vehicles leave our shop on base(vehicle maintenance in the AF) that had the lugs torqued to the proper specs and came back later that day or the next. low quality items or worn down items tend to systematically fail.
id pull your bearings out and take a look at them. clean them really good with some breake cleaner and look for any scoring or pitting marks. if you find any, replace them. if they turn out to be good still, just grease em up and put them back in. if that doesnt fix it id get some good quality lugnuts, and make sure your studs are and everything are good too.
hope this helps, GL man
