Edit: Ok here are the requested pics of the side walls.

First thing to do on my priorities list is to call tirerack and get some answers.

I want new tires, bottom line. I wasn't sent what I ordered.

I dont want to have to pay shipping to send the old tires back. I dont even want to know what that would cost me without an account discount.

If tirerack wants to give me the run around I'll just get ahold of BFG and let em know that tirerack is selling bogus kdw2's

See if you can find a break in the tread (like where it starts and ends at one point) That is a sure sign of a re-tread.

If the tread on all 4 tires is a non interrupted pattern, they may just be generics.

I'll pull one of the tires off the car tomorrow morning and see if I can find any sign of it. Does BFG do the retreading or another company?

Can a generic company make a knock off of a tire with bfg's name and logo on it?

I wouldnt do anything inconvenient to you, just call TireRack.. I bet they will send you a new set right away and a call tag for the others. Getting them to pay for mounting/balancing the new ones? I bet they will...

Most tires can be re-treaded.. multiple times in fact. Kind of lazy on our part not to, but this is what happens... you see a BFG and you get a General compound

so bfg doesn't retread it right? If its a rip off/copy, I assume its of lesser quality. Im not sure what you mean by a "you get a general compound" Like a bait and switch?

Question

I am curious about the date of manufacture. Here is the code:

XXXXXXXX 0608

06 - Manufactured during the 06th week of the year

08 - Manufactured during 2008

yes they are... I've also known them to send out some crazy mistakes with offset and sizes on tire packages, they quickly fixed the issues and shipped out the right stuff same day.

Just and update to those following the thread:

Spoke with an upper level customer service rep this morning and explained my situation.

Emailed him a picture (much better quality this time) and he said it was being examined to see what it was.

He did clarify that if I was sent the wrong tire I would get a new set of kdw2's. Not sure what the confusion is...

Looks like a bad copy to me. I think I was sent a generic re-tread.

Ok, so here's the latest update:

Tirerack has offered me a $100 credit to keep the current tires or have the tires I originally ordered sent to me....hmmm.

They claimed that this was a new design that hasn't been updated on their website.

Funny how it is no where to be found on BFG's website and no one here has ever seen it.

Needless to say Im having them send the two tires that I origianlly ordered.

Seeing if I can get them to pay for the new install will be the fun part.

yet, I'd still find it highly unlikely that TR would sell retreads. Clearly a mistake was made. Perhaps it was an evaluation tire from BFG that just got put in stock by accident.

Just got off the phone with a lady from BFG and had her view the side by side comparison of the KDW and and the "mystery KDW." She stood her ground claiming it was a KDW based on her own pride and the numbers on the tire.

She gave me the run around too. I did get her to say that their is only ONE tread pattern for the new tread KDW which is what tire rack calls the KDW2.

All of the numbers matched up, tire was made in 2006, blah blah.

No one knows what this tread pattern is and doesnt have to ***** to admit a screw up.

well, youre doing good work keeping us updated. I like some things about TR, they've never done me wrong... and I think the chance of getting some thing like this from them is very very slim.. that said, I'd have to think twice before ordering tires. Not saying I wouldnt, but again, I would weigh your experience in my decision making process.

They are mounted.

I think that the idea of them being an evaluation or experiemental tire is right on.

Maybe Im being a brat but I want what I orginally ordered, not some mystery unproven tread pattern. They are supposed to be sending me these tires when they "locate" them. HAHAHA
