New tread on KDW's?
#41
yeah, these things arent exactly cheap.. I think youre original issue is that they are knockoffs.. if you'd called TR and BFG and they said "oh you just got lucky and got the new design," I'm sure you'd be happy and keep them as is. But thats not what they are doing... *especially* with a 2006 mfg date.. thats very fishy.. If I were you, I'd be pushing for the tire that we all know is a KDW2.. and performs the way you expect... for the price you paid.

Finally a definitive answer
Ok just got an email back from Larry at tirerack. This guy has been great and went to great lengths to figure out what this tire was. Here is his explanation:
The tires were actually used as an OE tire according to my product
information specialist. Because we buy from their warehouses all over
the world, the suppliers often try to slip in tires that are not the
same part number but they think they can get by with. Sometimes it is
intentional, some times it is a mistake.
We are supposed to catch that difference when we check in the tire, but
in this case we did not.
Here is what I was told about our stock:
WE HAVE HAD THIS TIRE FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR NOW, AND JUST LATE
LAST WEEK WE DISCOVERED THE DIFFERENT TREAD PATTERN.
THE VERSION HE ORDERED WAS ORIGINALLY TUNED FOR AN OE
FITMENT, THAT NEVER CAME THROUGH FOR BFG. THEY HAD PRODUCT
ALREADY, SO DECIDED TO SELL THEM. THE STANDARD LOAD Y RATED
VERSION IN THIS SIZE HAS THE TRADITIONAL TREAD PATTERN,
WITHOUT THE WAVY CENTER RIB SEEN IN THIS PICTURE.
We will get it figured out for you, it will just take us a couple of
days.
Thank you for your patience.
Larry
So long story short I will be getting new tires and was told that I could fax a receipt for $40 for a mount and balance and be refunded the amount. Tirerack is back on my good side and corrected their mistake. No boycott to follow
