I am going to replace the factory wheels on my 2006 6MT Touring sometime soon. I am either going all 18s or 18 front 19 rear. I don't want to go with 19 all around as the roads here are not the best in all areas of town. Living on the coast, we have a lot of ground settling and a fair amount of potholes. How do you guys with the factory GT wheels feel about this. Any of you with aftermarket setups that are 18 and 19? I will be doing 245/40 in front and 275/40/18 rear or 275/35/19 rear, depending on if I decide to go with different diameters. This is a daily driver and isn't tracked, although I do enjoy spirited driving in the car :-) From a purely asthetic standpoint, 19s seem to fill out the rear wheel well and look better. Sometimes the rears look smaller than the fronts with 18s all around, even though they are both 18s; an optical illusion based on the dimensions of the rear I guess. A harsher ride with 19 rears? Thanks for your input.

A good combo is 275/35-18 front and 275/35-19 rear. This takes away the understeer our cars have, and has the same amount of sidewall front to back.

 

275 up front is wayyyyyyy to wide imho...

 

They fit perfect on a 9.5 +35 to +20 without rubbing.

Have you drivin a Z with 275's in the front?? They handle so much better.

 

don't forget the 3% rule.

265 but it felt super awkward I would at most run 255/285 but again just my opinion. If he can meet up with someone local and drive there's with 275 up front then by all means.

 

Yeah this sounds like it would work fairly well, but I agree with wider tires up front if you can fit them. I went from 225/245 front/rear to 245/275 and noticed a sizable difference. Less understeer and less tailsliding exiting corners. Wider is better... we all know it. Its just tricky getting a setup you want within that 3% rule. Basically the circumference (distance around the circle) around your front tires should be about 3% less than the rears. Just check the sticky thread about it...

 

I run a 275/35/18 and a 295/30/19. I track my car and it is very balanced but I also have sway bars and coilovers and my own alignment numbers.

But these tire sizes are great with the correct offsets.

i run 255 up front if i tracked more id go with a 265. right now i have 275 out back the 255 is for sure a better step then the 225's that come stock bite alot better and even drive daily better.

As you go from a 45 to 40 to 35-series the sidewall is shorter and the ride is more harsh.

Also consider tires. Some offer a more comfortable ride than others.

 

Yes, thanks. Never owned a car with 35 series tires before. Rears will be 275/35/19, if I decide to stagger the rim height as well. Was just curious how noticable it was. Will probably go with Goodyear F1 GS-D3.

And as you know david from the "other thread", I am putting faith that my V2 is a winner "smiles"

i rode in a friends Z with that set up and i didnt seem harsh at all.

 

Cool, I was a little worried the 35 aspect ratio might be a little hard. I am pretty sure I am going to order aftermarket rims at 18 front and 19 rear, 245/40/18 and 275/35/19.

 

Cool show us lots of pics when you get them, I wanna see... I'm considering this too for the future. I've got Rota P45F/R wheels front and back in 18's, and wheeldude is looking at possibly making them in 19's as well so I may get two 19's for my rears.

 

No problem, I'll do it. I always thought the 19s on the GT filled out the wheel well better. I'd go 19s all around, but I think the ride will be a little less harsh with 18s in front, not to mention the roads here. I do still have a slight concern about damaging a rim with 19s.

Well I went from the stock 17's to 19's and I don't think the ride is harsh at all. No more so than my 17's with the crappy stock tires. I don't have springs or coilovers yet so I can't comment on that aspect.

Anytime you are in the downtown area, where all the clubs and restaurants are, you have to be very careful. Being surrounded by water, it is nearly impossible to keep the roads from settling. They repave a street and it is great for a while, then it starts to sink in places. "militia"? stationed here maybe in the past?
