Curbed my SF challenges tonight.... Got a nice gash on my rim as well as my body kit. The impact also caused a small chunk of my Toyo's to be cut out. And im not sure if this is safe to drive on.

The tires are brand new so im hoping these are safe to drive on. If they are, should i cut it off or something? I have no clue.

Any useful info would be greatly appreciated.

Replace.

 

The problem with a damaged tire is heat failure. Pressure increases and will seek the point of least resistance. There it is.

So the choice is possible failure at 70 MPH or $200 for a new tire.

 

+1, especially on the sidewall. There is much more load/stress on the sidewall than the tread.

 

Depending how deep it is, still, I would replace it. I had one like that and never had a issue with it even after track events. But it wasn't exactly that deep. So I wouldn't take a chance on that.

 

Depends on how deep it is. If it's shallow, and just part of the "rim guard" that some tires have, prob not a big deal.

There are things one can avoid replacing; damaged tires arent among them. At least in your case since the tires are new, you don't have to replace them in a pair.

 

ouch that sucks!!!You deffinatly need to replace that tire before you do any long distance driving,or even highway.

 

replace tire and fix the curb rash on the rim. there is a DIY from an audi forum floating around here that i used to fix mine and a friend of mines and you seriously cant tell anything happened.
